Anne wanted to be a published writer, and was a learner of the world in her own way because she couldn't go to college, and now her life is being celebrated in print, and she is now named after a university. How brilliant is that! The world works in mysterious ways.🥰🎩

Oddly enough we have to thank the BBC for listening to Sally Wainwright, for if that did not happen, Lister would still be a mere footnote, and not a media 'rockstar'. Grateful from the 'fuse' being lit by Helena and the archivist who put her on her path, right on through to millions now learning and accepting a most remarkable life that many women-of-kind, these days, understand and more importantly very much accept.

I have watched and enjoyed it numerous times on Amazon Prime in the past few years, but Amazon (US) have now listed it as 'unavailable' - I think because people thought it was the GJ series. When I was first told of GJ with Suranne et al, I said I already saw it thinking it was the Maxine Peake's Lister. I am hoping the BBC again pulls through for S3.

@@carolinethom3022 Didn't know it was HBO's cash cow, thanks for info. Your thought makes sense on Pride Month. Sad. I think if it were a man's extensive journal/s on his heterosexual exploits, they'd have 5 solid seasons already lined up. Thank goodness for good books to read on Lister.

Anne Lister was a woman and she knew she was a woman but a different kind of woman, with a different way of being in the world, a woman who loved women and expressed her authentic self even as that expression went against the grain of the time in which she lived. In her journal Anne Lister said god made her as she was and that she she must follow her god-given nature in how she lived. Anne Lister was an extraordinary woman and an inspiration and we are so fortunate that her journals survived so that her story could be told, and we are so fortunate that there are those who have made certain that her voice would be heard--thank you to all of you.

Nice documentary on the welcome acknowledgement of Anne Lister's achievements, not only as a lesbian and a woman, but as a self thaught scholar and example lerner who crafted her life to maximises her potentials. It contains mostly of the interviews of the for experts. Since I missed the names of one of them I was surprised to find no mention of them in the credits or elsewhere. Please credit these important contributions.

Lesbian love has always been present in human life, it is natural. Only extremist have an issue and are hell bent on harming the life of human beings and justify the harm they inflict with religion among other beliefs. What type of human do you wish to be, one that is remembers for causing harm to others. Or a human being who is wise and knowing of love and kindness and uplifts humanity. Anne Lister is remarkable ❤

The city of York should be proud of opening a new college for the students from all over the world to study at „Anne Lister College“. It is amazing and inspiring for generation to come who will graduate at this college, stating the name of Anne Lister on there certificate. What a amazing she must have been. Helena Wrightbread deserve a written recognition from the state of York for her achievement in bringing Anne Lister alive. Mon Chapeau! Hat‘s off. Aslam. Ps. The video was fantastic.

A great documentary about Anne Lister and the New York University College named after her. Well done to all involved. It must have been a lot of work pulling all this together and kudos to you for getting interviews and comments from so many who have been instrumental in bringing Anne Lister to the wider public’s attention. Well done to York University for choosing Anne Lister as the new college name and for putting inclusion top of their agenda. In our increasingly divided society it is what’s desperately needed right now and to encourage this in our future generations is only to be applauded.
