There actually is money in the long term for solving homelessness. They're literally a giant labor resource in this country that systematically cannot participate. Not only is it just the moral thing to do to solve homelessness for humanitarian reasons, but it's also economically beneficial in the long run. We'd have to make some large investments, but they'd pay off in the long run. The problem is rich people aren't actually the smartest people in the room. Yeah.. however I disagree on there being no money in helping people get back on their feet... the economy is driven by each and every one of us; he certainly covered his bases by asserting that "if you come up with a solution, those nasty ugly 'swiney' politicians will implement it in a heart beat..." I was reading a comment on an article about "not all men are sexist"... The same applies here.. politicians aren't all that way.. they can turn that way due to some heavy hitters doing bad things and having to compete with them but still.. it was such a blatant mockery .. not to mention a contradiction.. there is no such thing as "never" or "nothing;" though I'm certain someone will say something silly like: "Oh yeah? Well, if that's true, then I bet there are cartoony texture beings in the universe.." Yeah.. and the most difficult thing to believe at that point, is that in the entire universe, that something as basic as texture cannot imitate or exhibit a cartoonish shade and qualities... Particularly with technology... it depends on how you perceive things I suppose... I like George too, but like him, I pick at and am peevish at this sort of thing... edit: Think about it.. there's nothing more annoying than someone with the mindset that spews garbage which translates to: "Well, as far as I'm concerned..." .. To people like that who aren't wiling to change or practice what they preach: "You stupid hypocritical piece of garbage..." . . "If you're not a part of the solution, then you're a part of the problem."

He means there's no direct money in helping the homeless get homes. There's no direct return on investment to investors, which is how things get done in our modern world: people help someone only to help themselves. You can't charge interest on the homeless. Got into an argument with a bunch of people I knew who were petitioning the city to stop transforming a hotel into affordable apartments for the homeless because it was too close to them. Now. The New York City counselor or New York governor or who makes the 4-5 star hotels must report their empty room amount on a nightly basis. While you and or a foreign tourist visiting the US will be lodging between two homeless crackheads or migrant families freshly arrived from Texas border you know.
@lp9092 Жыл бұрын
They converted a bus station to a homeless shelter in a business district here. Businesses saw a drastic increase in break-ins, and the home-depot and Winners store across the road have a huge increase in shoplifting. The Manager of Winners is beside himself... his loss protection staff can’t keep up with it now. The Home Depot worker I talked to said they lose $8,000 per day, per DAY, in stolen merchandise. We just bought a bike and the city gives a list of theft locations as reported by crime victims, guess where they happen most? Every cyclist knows you can’t leave bikes parked anywhere near these shelters. If a bike gets stolen, police first patrol to the nearby shelter and half the time it’s there... you’re lucky if they find it, more lucky if it wasn’t damaged during the theft or that it’s already been spray painted, parted out, or had the serial numbers and decals filed off. There is trash strewn about outside along the streets where they throw things, and now there are tents and shopping carts left along these roads. On the other side of town there’s a social assistance building near one of our schools. Teachers have to check for syringes left in the school yard, and anyone who can’t afford to move away is left to tell their kids “be careful, don’t touch needles” when they’re playing in the playground. Not a consolation for 7 year olds who may get stuck with a life altering needle prick. Anyone who’s been around for more than a minute knows you can put a price on a house, but good neighbours are priceless. This is one reason why the suburbs are so attractive to the middle Class. The rich can afford to live anywhere, the middle class just want to own homes and be safe... so they started moving to bedroom communities long ago. Many homeless people have mental health issues and addictions. We can build those persons a house, but until homes, food and assistance is directly linked to rehab... nothing will change and NIMBY always has a valid point. I can’t even count the number of businesses that have closed down due to entrenched street people breaking in and wreaking havoc with their stores. These are mom-and-pop shops just trying to make ends meet. I love Carlin and he makes great points, but I imagine if he owned a grocery store and had to deal with this himself-on the daily- he’d have a different tune.
@sebastianschoefl Жыл бұрын
@@lp9092 I think the bigger question to ask is, why do these homeless people feel the need to steal and break into these shops (if it was actually them and not just someone staching their ill gotten goods in that shelter). Do they not have enough Food and water? Is the shelter bad? Also, this still doesn‘t adress the bigger problem of why homeless people exist in the first place. If these stores and store-chains are so concerned about homeless in the area stealing from themm then there is a very simple solution to this problem: decrease the homeless population by opening oportunitys for them in the job market, so they can afford to be a falued member in society.
@lp9092 Жыл бұрын
@@sebastianschoefl so let me get this straight, youre suggesting someone who works a regular job and doesn’t go to a shelter would “stash” the things THEY stole at... a shelter? For what, safe keeping? to “frame” someone? Clearly you haven’t ever been to a shelter. And it is simple to see why people steal, that is only a question for someone who has never met a drug addict or criminal. I struggle that you suggest the creation of jobs is the answer. Have you ever considered that someone doing heroine may not be a good worker? Or that some people would rather just steal because it is easier? Or that blaming a shopkeeper who gets robbed at gunpoint for “not making more jobs” is actually victim shaming and dumb? Maybe next you’ll suggest women who get raped should make more vaginas available.
