I had a V1 when they first came out. Was one of my favorites until I lost it due to an aileron hinge failure....altho I didn't know that's what the cause was at the time. I had thought the detached aileron was result from crash not the cause. Until last year when I pulled the dusty carcass out of the corner of my basement to rob the retracts from it for another project. After looking over the wreckage and doing further searching online i put the cause together. I have since obtained a V4 red/white version (best color scheme IMO) and first thing I did was replace all the foam hinges with Robart hinge points. I really love flying this plane. You can do touch and goes all day long. Plus it takes big 6s batteries and doesn't mind the weight....it gives you 20+ minute flight times easy. Really though, all T-28's are great flyers from the tiny 400mm ones all the way up to the latest 2m one from eFlite. Though I have the say the FMS 1500mm version holds a special place for me.

Everything 1200mm or bigger should have hinges! From factory. BUT, fms has upgraded all their branded, standard, 1.2m+ servos (for 2023) to metal gear digital servos. Bout time!

I'm not having any luck with mine, front leg is rubbish on grass and has now been permanently fixed down. Suspension is far too stiff. Flap hinges have given way. Had to add 40g weight to tail. Bizarrely it drags its tail in turns and needs rudder to tidy. Flies like a power hungry brick that's scared of heights. Looks great. Can't believe you recommend this for beginners
@TwoBrosRC

We're pretty sure that we mentioned there would be issues flying it off grass due to the design of the landing gear doors, but "grass" is not an all-encompassing term. There is grass that's almost as good as pavement, and there's "grass" that's more like the surface of the Moon with plants growing out of it. If you're not flying off grass fields that are rolled and kept for runway purposes, chances are you'll have issues with most planes you fly. Many aircraft require rudder to coordinate a turn. You're describing adverse yaw. Using rudder is always recommended when turning as it keeps the nose pointed into the turn and prevents it from slipping out. If it flies poorly for you, our guess is that you're using old batteries or batteries that aren't up to the task. Or you're flying on 3 cells instead of 4. We recommend this plane for beginners because it's not hard to fly, has plenty of power, and has gentle stall characteristics. It's a warbird for beginners.

It would be interesting to see your comparison to the much bigger, much more expensive and newly released Carbon Z T28 from Eflite. I know that they are in a completely different size category, but man that huge Eflite bird looks good, and you might as well go big unless transportation or cost is an issue.

The biggest issue with the 2m T-28 is that we're running out of space to store aircraft, but we might be able to find a creative storage solution for it.

I've had one previously (red/white) and loved it. Stupidly sold it after I got an E-Flite CZ 2m Trojan which is good but needed many mods to make it great but that's another story. Back to this FMS T-28.. Have to agree with the comments and scoring of this FMS version, its a fantastic little plane which is easy and compliant. Complaints are the wheels are terrible and definitely need replacing, the main struts can be easily damaged if you are not careful when landing, would be nice to see proper full metal struts all round. I absolutely love the full set of gear doors but they can be fiddly especially the nose gear doors and the rear door sections that hang lower on the main struts can be easily torn off on hard landings or taller grass / rougher surfaces. I did have the stock ESC fail which was disappointing but luckily it decided to blow up after I had already touched down so I didn't lose the plane to a crash. I thought it really came alive on 6S and with a little canopy modification you can fit larger 6S batteries in it for extended flights. It definitely flew well on 4S but 3S it felt lethargic and you would need to avoid more windy conditions. I did replace most of the foam hinges with mechanical ones which eliminated the hinge breakage concern and I would highly recommend anyone with this plane do the same. I never did get round to replacing the rock hard wheels with softer items but if I was to get another I would definitely be doing that upgrade. I did however replace the nose strut with the strut from a Freewing T-33 Shooting Star which helps greatly! Another piece of advise is avoid flying from wet surfaces like dewy morning grass as the struts will quickly start to stuff out, and I would also spray a little lubricant / water dispersant spray in the struts themselves as they too tend to quickly fill up with dirt. Also spray the wheel hubs as I had my nose wheel seize as the axle started to rust. I wish FMS would upscale this plane to the next size, perhaps 1700 or 1800mm wingspan and I would absolutely buy it! Please please please FMS! Make a larger Trojan! I have no doubts it would be easily superior to the E-Flite CZ Trojan.

Great video, and I always appreciate your reviews! I recently bought the Red/White V4 version and am about to take it on its maiden flight. However, I'm concerned about the front gear because it doesn't turn nearly as well as yours did in the video. Since my runway is tight, having good steering on the ground is crucial. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Any FMS plane which has foam hinges (especially the elevator!!!) needs immediate modification. DONT fly any of their planes until you replace junk hinges with DuBro pinned hinges. Other than that FMS makes awesome planes !

We can't say we've had that experience or share that sentiment. The foam hinges that FMS uses hold up well. They just don't take impacts.

I have the V4 version, the manual shows the CG is 80 - 85mm from the leading edge of the wing. If you have a CG balance machine like the EZ BALANCER or the Xicoy digital balance CG meter. They both show that the plane is so nose-heavy, that it needs a ton of weight as far back by the end tail to get the range they show in the manual. I am using a 4S 3200mah and it's installed as far back as possible. So I was wondering what you did for the CG as recommended by the manual?
@TwoBrosRC

We simply used a light 3600 SMC HV pack to get the balance we were looking for.

Good day. This T28 is the best flyer among a bunch of T28s available. The one from banana hobby flies like 💩, not to mention the terrible servo and foam quality. 1.1m from eflite flies like a toy. The 1.2m version of eflite flies great, but isn't as scale as this 1.4m. It's a shame that Eflite doesn't even have shock-absorbing landing gears and speed brake for the 2.0m T28.
@TwoBrosRC

It's definitely a good middle of the road model. Not as big or hard to store as the 2m version, better flight characteristics than the smaller T-28s.

I'm curious, with these "stock" aileron and elevator servos why do you go past the range of these stock servos by setting the travel to 150%? Isn't this past the range of most of these stock servos that typically reach their limit at 100%?
@TwoBrosRC
@TwoBrosRC Жыл бұрын
Most servos can travel to 150%, which is their full resolution. It's exceedingly rare when servos can't pulse to 150%. The only time we've seen this is with the E-flite Beechcraft D18 servos which can only travel to 100%.
@davidgerlach1132
@davidgerlach1132 Жыл бұрын
@@TwoBrosRC So do you suggest always setting the travel "by default" to 150%? I'm just worried that it may grind the gears overreaching on the servo, because as you adjust it in real-time, I can see and hear it reach its limit before 150%.
