Let's talk about where self-help falls short, Harm OCD, mental health and suicide, and the Seat of the Self.
Chat with me 👋 calendly.com/c...
Hi, I'm Corey. I am a writer/actor/comedian based in Los Angeles. I have dealt with mental health issues since the fifth grade. Now I want to laugh with them. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Anxiety Disorder, and Depression. I'm not a doctor, but that’s exactly why my brother said I should talk about it.
This is a literal self help channel. For me, and hopefully for you. 🙌

I have been thru this and maybe it’s a crutch to assist me to get over it but I sincerely believe is a higher power. To me that higher power is my belief and faith in Gd .

I believe that space inside each of us is a place for others to express themselves in our inner worlds. Without it, we wouldn't be able to perceive any new information. There won't be any space. All our lives, we are trying to fill that void when instead, we should recognise it as space for possibility. It is a matter of belief.

Thank you Ruxandra. I never thought about it like this before: a place for others to express themselves in our inner worlds. That’s beautiful. A space for possibility… ✨

Thank you, Corey. 😊 Yes, you can think of anything, but I propose sticking with beliefs that enhance the quality of life. The unknown can also be space for imagination, creation and consciousness, considering that, scientifically, we are not able yet to place any of those in a specific place in the body. 😁

@@AndraxurThank you! 🙌 Beliefs that enhance the quality of life. That's great. It reminds me of Elizabeth Gilbert speaking to that similarly: that people can think she's crazy for her insistence on positive perception, but she seems to be living a much more enjoyable experience.

I think when you embark on this journey inward the illusoriness of it all can become more apparent and at least I've found that it can often have a dampening effect on my mood. Things that once felt so salient or pleasurable or painful can simply be known as such with less attachment and it can all seem rather cyclic and meaningless (or sometimes very peaceful) when observed. I know that feeling of needing to figure "this" out before moving forward in any kind of authentic way. Otherwise aren't I just existing in the loops, is that all there is to it? I believe that due to the vast information reserves we have access to now it has become somewhat more likely to encounter these kinds of states where the "normal" doesn't feel so solid because we can learn about so many various aspects of life without having to step through it ourselves. We can change and self-improve but like you said there's always a space left open. Always an unknown, both freightening and intriguing. Both infinitely dark and illuminating. The tremendous feeling of guilt from being discontent is very relatable. You are spot on with the cards we are delt though, all supply pain and joy (to wildly various and arbitrary degrees) but they do indeed look very different to each person who observes another's circumstances. I've come to believe that when I attempt comparison (which I still do all too often) I'm on an impossible mission. As Alan Watts expresses, "existence itself is relativity" and so from what perspective are you trying to make the comparison? You simply have no solid place to stand when you do that. It can become frustrating sometimes because I often feel uncertain where others believe they have some degree of certainty. You are expressing some of these esoteric things in a way that feels very genuine to your own experience. I find it extremely valuable and heartening. Thank you Corey.

Thank you so much for this thoughtful response, Steven. It’s so heartening to see this kind of care. It’s amazing how the illusoriness can be a completely different experience depending on the perception, or point in the journey…More paradoxes lol. The access to information and abundance of time not spent hunting and gathering certainly makes for an interesting inflection point in the history of humans. I like this from you: “to compare…an impossible mission” Your frustration with other’s certitude reminds me of one of my favorite quotes: “Honor those who seek the truth. Beware of those who’ve found it.” -Voltaire Again, thank you so much for your support and response. Really and truly. 🙌

This whole thing revolves around paradox. I think we have to surrender to hating ourselves and be OK with it. And it's not black or white, on or off, right or left kind of thing. It's a sliding scale, a color scale or a percentage. The percentage we surrender to hating yourself, is the percentage that is free to love ourself. Hating ourselves is not the problem. Our problem with hating ourselves is the problem. Feelings are never the issue. It's our feelings about our feelings that causes us grief. Today I am sad and feel like crap....so the fuck what? This question/realization to these feelings is very powerful for me. Get comfortable being uncomfortable. PS... Truthfully on the outside looking in, I can't see at all what your issue with yourself is.

Paradoxes everywhere for real haha 💛 I've been thinking a lot about surrender recently, and how it helps. Thank you very much for the message and your humble thoughtful energy. It means a lot. Sending good vibes back at you for today. Get comfortable being uncomfortable. Maybe it's time for some Goggins videos... 🙃

I know I keep saying it but I really think you should look more into Mark Manson's stuff. He has a way of putting philosophy and psychology in terms that really click for me. A lot of my journey has really been improved since I started studying his stuff. It's nothing new, just all in one place and a unique perception to it.
