I used to live in Fort Walton Beach and worked in Destin. It was a beautiful drive every day. Destin used to be just a small town back then in 1984. Now it’s one of Florida’s big vacation destinations.

Hi Bill, yes, we can always tell a tourist, they call it the ocean but we don’t mind. As for Helene, we only received high waves , high surge and strong current, much like you are witnessing on this day. The winds and rains missed us. Hooray for ramps - LOL!!! Driving up from Tarpon Springs later this morning. Can't wait to get my toes in that white sand. Temperatures/weather will be perfect all weekend in the Destin area. Hi, Bill and Elizabeth. I am a local and from what I recall in the news, the sailboat ran ashore just after the 4th of July, was towed back out into the Gulf, and anchored. The next day it washed ashore again and water was too rough to tow it offshore the second time. The cost to remove it now that it has become buried in sand is very high and owner can’t afford to pay. The park ranger can probably tell you the full story, but that’s what I recall. It’s been there way before the recent hurricanes.

Bill & Elizabeth - it was such a privilege for my daughter & I to meet you today. We are the ones from Ft Walton. You two have inspired us and taught me many things over the years. I wish we could have stayed a lot longer & talked with you more, but my daughter had another commitment. I look forward to it next year. I so much wanted to go but I finally found a HUD apt and trying to move. Plus, I've just found out I have several health problems. Hope it doesn't take long for y'all to drive there. So happy you enjoy Florida! I miss it as we were first stationed there as newlyweds. It always will hold a special place in my heart and our two oldest children were born in St Pete. We have been stationed many places but Florida holds such special times and memories. I hope your meetup was a great one and I can't see how it could be anything but wonderful with you two hosting and sharing your stories and, if you will, one of your Missons in life. I believe it won't be long after the holidays and you will be making your journey down to your home in Florida again to your new 2nd home. Beautiful! Just to be near the water and breathe in that fresh air would be a treat! We used to pick cruising for that very reason because it was a cheaper holiday for us. But then you don't get all that time to just chill on a beach, read a book etc. Enjoying vicariously! Can't wait for your next video.

How beautiful is Destin! And what a deal on the rooms vs camp spot! Some day we will have to go see Destin! We are across country and not a hop skip and a jump away but would love the meet up if we werent so far. I’m leaving Destin today. I’m sorry I won’t be able to attend! We’ve been camping at Topsail, but also love Henderson Beach! The waves were so abundant yesterday, which is unlike the gulf.

sadly, I should be on the road to Destin today (only a 13 hour drive) but, my plans were changed so I won't be there. BUT, I will be there 'in spirit". Some day I'll get to a meetup! I have stayed in Gulf Breeze and that area is beautiful! *sigh* I'm glad you are able to be there, enjoy, and willing to share with us!

You guys need to check out Ft. Pickins state park on Pensacola Beach. It is a really nice state park, and if you like history, it has a lot of history. Pensacola beach is beautiful too.
