bless you!!!! I'm in an anthropology Ph.D. as a woman with inattentive ADHD as well! It's been such a struggle and journey to make it to my third year. I took leave for a few quarters to get it all sorted out. Reading takes me forever to do to, you have to be kind to yourself! I use the Pomodoro method to study, and it's helped a lot. Good luck with your work!!

Thank you so much for your comment--I love connecting with people with ADHD who are also in grad school! That's fantastic you've made it so far! Almost no one's grad school journey is completely linear, and I think that's even more true for neurodivergent people. You're so right that it's super important for us to be kind to ourselves... although that's something I'm still learning :) Good luck with your work as well, and the start of fall term madness! I'd love to stay in touch and hear how your journey is going!

I haven't finished the video yet but I decided to check out your other channel and was really amazed to hear you have ADHD. I have ADHD too and tried to do a degree with the open university a few years ago but failed. Even with medication, I am not sure that I could do it anymore especially with managing life around working full time. I'd love to study anthropology or something similar. I always got good grades but felt somewhat stupid in other areas of my life. ADHD is such a struggle in the modern world and oh do I know this so I think it's amazing that you've gotten this far.

Thank you so much! I came across your channel originally because of your ADHD videos--your documentation of your journey has been so helpful for me as I've been learning how to deal with it! ADHD is really a struggle in academia, and I think I've only made it so far because I've been able to hyperfocus on projects and research I'm passionate about. Working full time while doing a degree would be a lot of work for sure (for anyone!)... but if it's something you're passionate about studying, I really hope you're able to figure out something that works for you! :)

It’s so great having this community of PhD students on here... makes the grad student experience a little less lonely! And I love your videos, they’re so inspirational 😊

13:32 That's exactly where I am. I have ADHD, Anxiety, and I was undiagnosed for either until well into my adult life. I'm finishing up a History/Philosophy degree, and I basically have to wait for the fear to take over and drive every time I have a paper to write. I'm currently hoping to get into a Master's program, and this is probably the thing I'm the most nervous about.

Best of luck with getting into a Masters program! Honestly, the fear of an approaching deadline is still the only reliable way I know of to motivate myself to work on something 😅 it does certainly make being a grad student more difficult, not being able to do consistent work throughout the week, but hopefully you’ll be able to find ways to work with it. Also I find in grad school they’re much more flexible about deadlines, which is both a blessing and a curse haha. I hope all goes well with finishing up your degree!
