Regarding the purple onion that is called a "red" onion (at least here in the USA - I don't know what the rest of the world calls that item): The red onion was used as food long before the word "purple" existed. Same with "orange," so the color of carrots, both orange and purple ones, were simply called "red." Any color close to "red," such as orange or purple, was simply known as red. "Orange" was first used to name the fruit, with the color being named after the fruit (and not vice versa, as is typically assumed). The word "orange" as describing a color first occurred around 1510, and the word "purple" as a word first occurred in the early 1300s. Before then, those colors were simply red. (Eventually, things that were orange in color were described as "red-yellow" or "yellow-red", depending which color was more contributory.) So that is why, to this day, we call them "red cabbage" and "red onion."

so interesting! In Croatia, "red" onion is the orange-brownish one, and the purple one is "purple"... but "white onion" means garlic in some dialects hahah! And what is called "red" wine in english is "black" wine for us, so it can cause a bit of confusion when translating :P I always found it funny and cute, though!

Thank you for the tip on removing the bitterness from bitter melon! Bitter melon is supposed to be beneficial for diabetics and I tried it once, but found it far too bitter to eat. Now that I have a way of removing that bitterness, I'll try it again- perhaps I'll have a food that I can happily eat and which will help the diabetes!

I love that this unassuming little food channel that doesn't hype products or services, doesn't have any drama, doesn't over produce or have special effects..has over 1 million subs. Just her, her family and words on the screen to tell us what she is doing and what food is(like i didn't know you could eat fiddle head fern) and she shows us how do make great meals in a different way. I really do just love this once a week look into her husband's lunches...and sometimes dinners. You and your family are so loving and lovely...thank you.

I am just in awe of these wholesome, effort-intensive meals you prepare everyday. What's most stunning to me is the amount of greens and veggies you manage to pack into them. You eat better than I do everyday and I am certain that you manage to do it at half the cost. My inspiration from you is to try and eat healthier and put some thought & effort into my meals.

Imamu-san it's so good to see you again ❤ I worked as a dental assistant so I can give you some life hacks 😉 Try to visit your dentist before lunchtime. It's the best time for children. You should visit dentist more often if your girl afraids of check ups. Once in 3-4 months. She'll get used to it. When you or your husband goes to dentist take your daughter with you. She'll see that there is nothing to afraid of and it will be easier to communicate with her later. Good luck ❤

You can pickle red onions pretty easily, and they go great with a lot of things. If you slice one red onion the way you did for the salad and put them into a jar you can pickle it overnight in the refrigerator. You make the brine in the jar by filling it with half water half red wine vinegar and some salt. The color of the onion should a vibrant magenta or purple color. The go great on salads, sandwiches, falafels, or burgers!
