So fun fact! Tomatillos are more like second cousins to tomatoes and are much more closely related to Ground Cherries, also known as Cape Gooseberries. They are a main ingredient to a lot of different 'green/verde' dishes in Mexico and also salsa verde.

Yes! They are not the green tomatoes used for fried green tomatoes traditionally. I have a hard time finding them in the south where they’re popular so I imagine it’s literally impossible in Canada. Gotta grow your own….I do for shishitos.

Tomatillos are used in Mexican cuisine to make salsas. I've never seen anyone do anything else with them. That's very creative.

Congratulations on your kitchen upgrade (11:53)! It turned out very nicely. And I love hearing your husband and daughter laughing in the background (17:25). You have such a sweet family. Thank you for your videos. I used to think of cooking as being stressful, but your videos make cooking seem comfortable and fun. 😊 I've learned some new things from watching.

@feliciiaab
@feliciiaab 7 ай бұрын
@@michelleloves Ohh, don’t get me started 😂 I hope I can give you some tips. I don’t know where you live but in Sweden where I live we have a lot of meat-substitutes. An easy way to get started and get familiar with the options is just to occationally switch to the vegetarian option. That way you get to taste them and see which you like and which you don’t. If you don’t have as many ”fake-meats” you can always use tofu (which can be cooked and prepared in many different ways). You can make like a patty from vegetables and so forth. There are plenty of good YT-channels as well that can provinsen great recipes and inspiration. One of my favorites is Peaceful Cuisine which is a vegan ASMR cooking and baking channel. I found his cooking just making me feel how fun it is to try new things. I think the fun part about going vegetarian/vegan is getting to be creative and just try to make things. I think that is the key to success to just have fun with it and see what you find rather than forcing yourself into something new. Oh, and I found spices are important with vegetarian food to really get the taste up there 😁

@@michellelovestofu and jackfruit and mushrooms, especially mushrooms are a great replacement if you don't like using vegan proteins( the fake meat stuff ). But if you're ok with that I usually recommend morning star or garden to use I really like using their products as well. I don't however like incogmeato they try too hard and I heard the soy protein they use to get meat taste is a bad genetically modified soybean. But don't remember stuff like beans, peas and lentils they are also protein

Hey Imamu, it's lovely to see you start exploring other food cultures as South East Asia consists of many different countries and flavours and I am more than happy to share with you my country's flavours. Here's a Malaysian style of blanching seafood, you may add mirin/sake and some ginger slices too. Ginger is known to remove fishy taste and smell from the seafood and reduce mercury poisoning from overconsuming seafood but feel free to add other herbs such as pandan, spring onions, ginger leaves etc. My family always add alcohol and ginger when we want to eat blanched seafood. Muslims may skip the alcohol but do add more ginger and another very important tip. clean your seafood before you blanch it!!!! Hope this seafood tip helps with your cooking. P.S. Do save the shrimp shells to make broth, it is the best 😋😋

Love your videos! A tip for making basil pesto or sauce is to quickly blanch the leaves for a couple seconds in hot water then right into ice cold water. It will slow their browning. Love the pork and shrimp stuffed shishitos I gotta try that!

For that basil sauce you wanted to make, when using a mortar and pestle, start with basil salt pepper and raw garlic if you want. Add the oil later, you want to grind it to a paste first. You can look up recipes for “pesto” to see how to do that.

Glad to see you’re having fun grating cheese! 😋🤤🧀 Freshly-grated parmesan is amazing, especially on pasta! If you haven’t tried them, I’d also recommend ricotta and brie. Both are very creamy and delicious! Ricotta is very mild and actually doesn’t really taste like cheese; because of this, it’s used in both savory dishes and desserts. Brie is also mild but has a very light cheese flavor; it’s great for snacking, with charcuterie, grilled cheese, etc. I love to see what new dishes you make and ingredients you use (like when you tried paprika) in your videos! 😊 I hope you get the chance to try these if you haven’t already; I’m curious as to what you think of them! Your video has me thinking about cheese now haha 🤤💕
