I'm currently making an effort to incorporate more fruit and veg in my diet and some things I've found useful are- use fruits as a topping for cereal or porridge in the morning, scrambled egg cooked with things like tomato and spinach is tasty and takes about 3 minutes, fruit salad with a little bit of yoghurt makes a good snack or dessert, snacking on smaller veg like cherry tomatoes of sliced cucumber helps too, and DON'T keep your bananas with other fruit.

Stop putting your bananas next to your other fruits. Ripening bananas give off a gas that makes your other fruit go off quickly 🍌

Yup it's called ethylene. All fruits give it off when they ripen.

It's beneficial if you need stuff to ripen faster though. Mike however does not. Although I have noticed in recent years that bananas seem to go bad faster.

Its not counted if its the same fruit, two apples is still counted as one portion, it has to be ten different fruits or vegetables, NHS rules not mine.

This simply isn't true. That's a guideline in place for the whole "5 a day" shtick because people aren't eating enough fruit and veg. It's intended to ensure you get a good mix of different nutrients. When you're on 10+ a day, it's pretty difficult to do all different fruit/veg and rarely benefits you. What matters is variety, and Mike has a fair amount of that here.

Sun Wukong excuse me, but the article mike is working off of doesn’t say any such thing. Also, even reading the five a day rules, that simply isn’t true. Juices and smoothies should be kept to 150ml and counts as one portion, and 80 gs of beans or pulses counts as one portion (and then no matter how many more you eat, only counts as one). Potatoes do not count. The NHS website encourages variety but it isn’t needed to get your five portions, no such rule on there. That would be silly. It just says not to drink 750 ml of apple juice in one go and call it your five.

Mike you are eating way too much fruit. It’s advised to eat mostly veg and a few bits of fruit due to the sugar content. Same with juice only one portion counts a day. Get a soup maker and start making really wholesome easy veg soup and use beans as an extra veg to create a creamy flavour and texture. This is one of my favourites: shred half a sweet pot with a peeler and add to the soup maker with a handful of cherry toms, two chopped carrots and one chopped red pepper. Drain one can of beans, this can be chickpeas, cannelloni beans or any other precooked tinned white beans, add to soup mix. Top up to line with water and add a veggie stock pot cube. Set to smooth setting press on and let it do its magic. Other easy veg tips, sweet pot chips. Add swede and carrots to potato mash for extra veg plus side veggies. Lentils also count as veg. Red lentils can be added to soup and are great in any tomatoe based sauce, ie spag Bol add red lentils to the tomatoes that’ll make the sauce creamier and bulk out the sauce. Get on the lasagnes and moussaka adding roasted veg to the layers plus side veg, these are bulk meals that last a couple of days to reduce cost. Also spiralising courgette and using it instead of spaghetti or mixing it with spaghetti will up your veg in take also. I have also roasted and liquidised a cauliflower and added the mixture to a white sauce to go over pasta, the cauliflower just disappears - I’m very good at hiding veg. The wind will pass, literally. To count as one of your 5 a day, it has to be 5 different fruit/veg! So you need to have 10 different fruit or veg- two bananas and two apples = 2, not 4, of your ten a day.

Bananas and pears are notorious for being unripe one second and almost inedible the next (I hate brown bananas, maybe try to buy them when they are green). I don't like prune juice, it always looks to me like what comes out of your body after you drink it :D

Peel and cut up those bananas and put them in the freezer when they get too brown. They'll go great into porridge, banana bread, and smoothies.
