Another great video. Nice week feeding the wolves/bears fishing with the kids and a Moose Bear hunt. That's the good life. They were cutting awful close to the creek. It was good seeing you on Shawn;s videos and helping him out with some windows great to see. I guess you don't have to many ticks out there in BC

Thanks for coming over from Cabin River and checking out a few of my videos. I’m going to try to do a weekly video like Shawn but obviously it will have a trapping theme now for the most part. Ya some pretty shaky logging practices I would say. We don’t get ticks this far north except for the deer/moose ticks on those critters but a few hrs south of here there are plenty that will hop aboard the humans and domestic animals. I’m sure we are both looking forward to Shawn’s new episode tomorrow. Have a great weekend!

Thanks! Laying traps on Tues and hopefully a vid out by the end of the week. Did you watch Ian’s (my colleague) video “Backcountry Bull Trout”? You would appreciate it I think.

Good stuff Reid and good to see you guys sharing your knowledge with kids as well. How long before wolf season do you start to put out scraps? Looking forward to seeing the snare sets along with other trapping skills. Keep up the great work and I really enjoy your videos and learning from them no matter what you guys are up to.

Thanks Dave. It’s actually a bit early to be baiting because of the bears, but the more we feed both, the better for the ungulates. Wolf opens mid Oct but I usually wait until it gets colder, less bears, and wolf pelts are better. I have a wild game butcher that supplies me with the bait and he is busy now so I take it. It doesn’t hurt to get the wolves in now and comfortable around the bait and our scent. Then all of a sudden, snares are up and they are less cautious….hopefully 😁

@@deadpinecollective Gotcha and you are exactly right about it being better for the ungulates regardless of the timing. I never really thought about it and it makes sense about getting the bait out there along with your scent and agreed hopefully they are less cautious. Thank you again for sharing all your knowledge and adventures - good stuff for sure.

Pretty sad what some loggers do. They do stuff like that here in Northern Ontario to

Ya, it is, and can’t be undone even if they get fined. This location was really poorly done. I’ve worked for forestry companies and have done block layouts before, so I’ve seen a fair amount of cut blocks.

Not sure how far loggers are supposed to stay away from waterways and lakes but it should be at least 100 meters. Animals need that space for food and protection

Ya, at least that, but those small little creeks/streams often get overlooked, and I’m not sure if anyone comes in after it’s logged to evaluate. They clearly cut down some trees outside the boundary 👎

The water level looks like the water level here - low. Don't the insects and heat "melt" the wolf bait at this time of year? No hunter orange requirements? Forestry seems similar to my area in that it's a massacre. Thanks for the video.
@deadpinecollective
@deadpinecollective 3 ай бұрын
@@mushercdn ironically this is the highest the water level has been in a long time. We’ve had a ton of rain for the last month which is good. It’s also now very cool out, but the critters clean out the bait within a few days. Hunter orange is not required, and yes it’s a shame what some companies do to the land. It’s all about quick and easy money. Thanks for the comment!
