Actually, most doctors still prefer to drape the patient prior to the injection, myself included and after performing around 4000 injections and no endophtalmitis I will probably keep doing it this way. And even if you're not draping I would highly advice using some form of measure to inject as close to 4mm from the limbus as possible. As a long fan of the channel, I hope you will keep good vision as long as possible dr Mellick.

Timing of this is interesting. I’m sorry you have been affected by this. My eye doctor just told me I have early changes for age related macular degeneration and told me to take Lutein every day and not with other vitamins for an hour. I’ve never smoked and don’t know of another family member with MD. This caught me by surprise for sure. I’m so glad you posted this video although I’m very sad that you have it. I do hope you keep us updated on how things are going for you. This answered questions I didn’t know I had.

That is good you have had favorable results! My mother has rheumatoid arthritis, and ended up with a severe case of uveitis. It was worse in her left eye. She has had several procedures done to try to preserve her vision in the left eye, but in the end she lost vision due to retinal detachment and all the damage to the macula. She's been on Humira for several months now and methotrexate, and a few eye drops, but now her right eye is having problems again. I suspect it's the inflammation causing her cataract to worsen. Eye disease is scary. I just hope we can get back to where she can at least read with glasses, at the moment she can't, which makes me sad, because she really loves to read.

Dr. M! Wow. What an awesome video. You are a GREAT patient and I hope the prognosis remains good and gets better for you! If you live long enough, there ARE bumps in the road. 😅

😮h my! Yikies 😢! Not you, Dr. Mellick. My highest hopes this helps in your treatment and gives you much relief from this challenge you’re dealing with. My Momma had wet MD in one eye and dry in the other. She would complain of eye pain also. How much down time does one need after receiving treatment? Also, we were told to wear eye protection when out in the sun. Has that changed too? How many shots will you be given? Gosh, I’m incredibly curious about how the treatment goes. Unfortunately, she didn’t opt for the injections back in the 90’s. Looks like they’ve came a long way in management of pain during the injection. Thank you for sharing your journey with your audience. Wishing you positive treatment success by leaps and bounds!! 😊

Thank you very much! I will do a follow up video maybe down the road. I’m not sure at this time how many injections I will be getting. Eye protection in the sun is still recommended. thank you very much for your kind comments.

Very informative. I'm not a medical professional (EMT way back in 2012, currently work in Clinical Research, Oncology mostly) but I have seen a lot of Pharma ads about wet AMD and was so curious to know what a patient actually presents with. Thanks Doc! (and thank you to your Ophthalmologist)

I'm having my second injection tomorrow and hope to find out if there's been any improvement. I have to say having the injection wasn't as bad as I anticipated, and by the following day, my eye felt back to normal. Hopefully, tomorrow's injection will go as well.

When I was a Corpsman in the Navy in the fleet we used Tetracaine before removing foreign bodies with a CTA, OR a 21 gauge needle tip if embedded.

How interesting, thank you! So the eye (surface of the eye) has its own microbiome?

I just found out I have this in both eyes. Well maybe it’s the dry kind that can’t be treated. I’m 41! The specialist said he’s never seen it in both eyes of a patient my age.

Wow, that is young. Be sure to take the AREDS 2 vitamins and Centrum Silver vitamins every day. Hopefully you can prevent the wet macular degeneration.
