@waltwhite81263 жыл бұрын
@@panamakira I actaully enjoyed the quest board system, but I think they should have gone full OSRS here, having the board to do the leveling quests (with waaay more variety) and also having some log intricate questlines (like OSRS) with nice rewards in the end. But I feel like they needed two more years to polish the whole leveling experience and make more content not only for leveling, but for endgame too. It is just too barebones right now. I'll try to play it like I played Albion Online, but in Albion the grinding was fun because you had to risk yourself in the PvP zones (where you can die and lose everything you grinded), while here even if I die nothing will happen, it just doesn't have that underlying danger of going on a high danger zone to gather resources. The pvp risk/reward just isn't there in NW, unfortunately. To me, if an MMO wants to focus on PvP it needs to be full loot (or close to that). IMO PvP without high stakes is meaningless.

Hell, at launch it's more than under-cooked at this point, it's under-conceived. There's some fundamental shit missing. It's a shame too because the crafting and gathering is decent, and the combat has a great foundation, it's missing depth and polish. The questing is plain terrible, but I've always hated most mmo quests. The Star Wars mmo did it the best, and the story there was awesome. Lots of players and easy to join up with guilds. Yet those all dissolve over time and if you can not keep up... you will become the fodder. Unrestricted Hardcore PvP games kill their casual player base due to the actions of about 5% of the community. I'm just so sick of wasting money on half baked online games and waiting for them to maybe be good someday. I went through this with Destiny 2 and while they did do a complete 180 I'd rather play that and FFXIV which is amazing. FFXIV's crafting and gathering also does an amazing job of being there for "the guy" that doesn't want to raid etc. but support the team with food, pots, and early gearing for a patch. They also started a thing with Shadowbringers where we help rebuild cities that were devastated in the MSQ so its server wide effort to rebuild it together by contributing. The fact that the core systems were probably written for PvP and rapidly converted for the much larger PvE audience is important. There haven't been many PvP focused games that also featured a heavy storyline, so I'm sure the original plan was just to have quests to help slower players catch up so they could compete. That whole notion of rushing to endgame is why so many MMO's have lackluster leveling. The devs buy into the idea that nobody will care, and because so many games DO have bad leveling experiences, it become self-fulfilling. Players ASSUME it has to be bad, so they don't even try... they automatically rush to endgame.

@@grampaseri personally, im not a fan of grinding in any game, rpg or otherwise. i always preferred horizontal progression, allowing me to flesh out my characters in any way i desire. as an mmo, i do think a middle ground can be met. an introduction that allows us to familiarize us with weapons/class/skills, then branches out so we can horizontally flesh our character out. im not saying zero vertical progression is the answer or resetting progression each instance, but i do think it should be shortened. players can then experience endgame much quicker without having to deal with "kill x amount, fetch x things". imagine how much more enjoyable story/lore content could be made if there wasnt the pressure of tying it to "kill x things, fetch x amount" quests for leveling experience.

This is a problem with new MMO's in general. There just isn't enough content diversity and length to keep players attention. MMOs now days with just how seasoned their player base is, they need years to build and diversify content. Thats why and how WoW was able to stay king for so long and its only now that others like FF14 are competing and even beating in some ways. FF is not a new game its been out for years, but its just now that people are like hey this is a good game with a lot of content. I think the same could be said about other MMOs too. Lord of the Rings online is still out there and its got a lot of content and a new expansion coming as well. Its insane how much is there to experience and its a really good nice MMO to. I'm currently subbed to FF14 and LotRO (though atm FF14 has my full attention) Elder Scrolls Online has also supposedly gotten really fleshed out and is really good. These games were laughed at when they first released cause they just couldn't compete. But now they have the content and polish behind them to shine. I'm still hoping LotRO will start getting some attention because the developers really care about making a true to Tolkien world and its really lovely to experience.

Another point is that the game is already figured out because of all the testing they did openly. So it's not even really a new game anymore.

I've been having a lot of fun. Reason is I'm always at 100% attention. It's not like most games where it's sometimes at 100% attention. When questing I'm always scanning the horizon for iron or hemp. Combat has a high ceiling and I'm doing so much better with dodging. The weapon skill leveling does suck. The queue times were terrible and so much so I moved from El Dorado to Camelot. It's over half the queue times and they're both "HIGH" population. The only reason why they would have mounts is if the world gets so big. Leveling is best if you pick up all Town and Faction quests and aim for only the Main quest and do quests along the way while picking up ALL iron, hemp, and leather. I also made the huge mistake of putting materials on the trading post. You need so much for crafting (especially iron, hemp, and leather). Final thoughts from me about this game is the potential is HUGE for this game. They just need to make the Main quest like SWTOR style where you speak directly and learn about the characters. Housing is decent but definitely they need to do some kind of instanced housing rather than you just having a house in a town--I want a house with a farm. Grant it I love Valheim.
@AtomicOverdrive3 жыл бұрын
IMHO the game looks graphicly amazing.. However the combat and general gameplay sucks.. It feels like a PUBG version of an MMORPG.. Great for a first person shooter, not for a RPG game. That and the questing is boring at best.. I had preordered the game, but ended up turning around and getting a refund because I disliked it so bad.. Such as shame..

Going to see how it develops over the next two years before I decide to invest time into it. I'm fine with FFXIV and ESO for now. Still have not played an MMO that made say "WOW! Now this is new a refreshing.". Most feel like WoW just some new mechanics and new skin.

Nearly every MMO does this, and I will never get it. They all spend big on the environment, and then throw together player skills at the last minute. Show me an MMO that released with zero content, and I will show you a beautiful game with nothing in it.

@Alvadar653 жыл бұрын
You are absolutly right, it is a massive grind. Thing is though that is why myself and a lot of other people want to play it. Personally I think this kind of MMO is far more niche than your average MMO but expecting it to be less grindy and not having to take a lot of time to grind all the aspects of the game is probably gonna leave you disappointed, since that is the main draw for a lot of people. I play FFXIV for my cool raid experience and awesome story quests, I play New World for the heavy satisfying grind. I totally totally understand that a lot of people wouldnt be into that, and thats okay. Does not make it a bad game even though some might think that or die hard fans might think someone is saying that when its just not their kind of game. Games dont have to be for everyone, they dont have to appeal to the same target audience over and over even if they are in the same game genre, having the variety of this game and FFXIV as a fan of MMOs makes me so so happy. Again, totally get it that its not some peoples type of game, but that does not make it a bad game, just not a game for you. Also does not mean the game is perfect but for the kind of game I was wanting to get out of it it has done far more things right than I had hoped. Hope those of you who are playing are enjoying your time if you can get past the ques and those of you who didnt feel it was for you find something cool to occupy your time, just please for the love of god if it isnt for you dont start bashing it or the people who play it just because it wasnt what YOU wanted. On the same token people who are die hard fans and who love the game, if someone doesnt like it then thats OKAY, leave them be, it isnt a personal thing, they arent invalidating your experience, we dont all have to agree on everything all the time.

The game is meh. There is no real innovation here. The game is uploaded to be this PVP phenomenon and it’s not. It has a worse version of the ESO weapon system. The combat is very similar to ESO. Crafting arrows is the most useless and mundane thing in all of mmorpgs for now users, it’s an instant disadvantage. The game is nothing special at all. And is basically a slightly cleaner rip off of ESO.

Everything about New World looks bland to me. There is no character or "charm"; at least to me. It also looks last gen; about as good as a PS4 launch title or something. Graphics aren't really the biggest deal to me, but they are for a lot of people and I really don't understand why there was any hype for this one. All the gameplay looks bog standard. Nothing new. Maybe it will have a long life and get some really nice post-release development (it is an MMORPG, after all), but I certainly won't be bothering with it.

Atrocious queues aside, I feel like what really put me off the game after an entire day was the levelling experience. The endless repeatable side quests was just a slog for me not to mention the underwhelming PvE. I enjoyed the skilling systems a fair bit though I must say. Edit : This comment section lmao, so much salt towards FF14 just because it clicks with preach more than New World does.

It’s not usually my biggest concern, but wow… those graphics look dated. Like not even up to 2010 standards - they’re certainly worse than FF14’s were in 2012 and they’re even worse to my eyes than the more recent WoW expansions.

How does the combat feel old fashioned? Most MMOs use tab targeting, or crude lock on mechanics, only 3 to my knowledge try this more action oriented approach and none of them are more than 10yrs old but the other styles are much older...
@jorgetinoco35743 жыл бұрын
What are you saying the combat feels old fashioned lmao, if anything the combat is the most modern there is
@ralfrudi39633 жыл бұрын
@@fiffer13 I think what he meant is that the combat feels clunky and slow, you can not do 2 things at the same time. Once you pressed a button you are animation locked until said animation is finished, just like back in the old days. You can not run and do a normal hit at the same time. Everytime you press attack your character pretty much stands still and does his attack animation. You can not jump and attack at the same time. Your character will finish his jump before attacking. All casts lock you in a 1-2 second animation. You can not use your dodge roll while doing anything (not even canceling said ability). This makes the combat feel very rough and unresponsive. Some melee weapons do a fine job at hiding this by using some decent animations and moving your character in the direction of the attack but the base problem is the same and VERY apparent when using a ranged weapon. This is something most MMOs have fixed. Their combat feels very responsive and just "new and fresh" while New Worlds combat feels like from the early 2000s when technical limitations didn`t allow for smoth, fast and responsive gameplay. It doesn`t matter that you can/have to freely point towards your enemy when the combat system as a whole doesn't allow for nearly the same amount of freedom.
