A ballad /ˈbæləd/ is a form of verse, often a narrative set to music. Ballads derive from the medieval French chanson balladée or ballade, which were originally "danced songs''. Ballads were particularly characteristic of the popular poetry and song of the British Isles from the later medieval period until the 19th century. They were widely used across Europe, and later in the Americas, Australia and North Africa. Ballads are 13 lines with an ABABBCBC form, consisting of couplets (two lines) of rhymed verse, each of 14 syllables.
Many ballads were written and sold as single sheet broadsides. The form was often used by poets and composers from the 18th century onwards to produce lyrical ballads. In the later 19th century, the term took on the meaning of a slow form of popular love song and is now often used for any love song, particularly the sentimental ballad of pop or rock.
The ballad derives its name from medieval French dance songs or "ballares" (L: ballare, to dance),[1] from which 'ballet' is also derived, as did the alternative rival form that became the French ballade.[2][3] As a narrative song, their theme and function may originate from Scandinavian and Germanic traditions of storytelling that can be seen in poems such as Beowulf.[4] Musically they were influenced by the Minnesinger.[5] The earliest example of a recognizable ballad in form in England is "Judas" in a 13th-century manuscript.[6] This means that the two words, ballad and ballet, are both derived from the French language.

Let me tell you a Sad story I was 7 when I was watching TV when a knock came at the door I thought it's was My Mom who was a deployed as a soldier but when I got to the door I saw no body but I opened the door anyway when I looked down there was a letter I picked it up and went to sit on the couch and opened it what i saw Teared me down it said "Sorry your mother died from a shot to the knee during war and her dog" when I saw this I completely broke apart Biscuit was the best dog I loved him so much when he slept with me I didn't have nightmares and my mom cooked my favorite food a lot and she would take me to Tiebreaker which was the best i was crying so loudly that my heavy sleeper dad woke up and rushed outside to me he asked me what was wrong then I handed him the letter when he read It he became Very pale and then he started crying this was the first time I have seen my dad cry we both suffered for a long time but I just wanted to say something mom I love you I always will
