Lovely movie. Curious how every country has its female WW2 heroes that turn into a movie. Our most famous one is The Girl with the Red Hair, about a resistance fighter in and around Haarlem, The Netherlands. And in 2006, the world-famous Paul Verhoeven made a movie about two girls in The Hague who joined the Nazi HQ as sex kittens to spy for the resistance, called Black Book.

When I was a kid - 1940s/50s We were told in class about the Jewish persecution in German occupied Europe. M initial reaction was: so they can't join the country club, same thing here. It wasn't until the 1960s that I saw the pictures of the death camps and what went on. As a kid I wanted to get into the War and kick some ass. Thank God I didn't. During the newsreels I saw scores of German kids as POWs. My God they were just kids! They wanted to do the same I wanted to do but then saw what war was REALLY LIKE! No Johnny shoot me nicely war---------I also have known some Holocaust survivors; one guy came from a family of 12 kids. Nine of them and his folks didn't make it. The Federal Republic of Germany paid reparations to Israel, which didn't even exist at that time and reimbursed Jewish survivors. Itz gonna be one helluva long time before Germany can live this down; if ever!

I don't think it was Germany, but the Nazis - and how did the Nazis come to power? -At the treaty of Versailles after world war one, the leaders of the Allied forces decided that instead of punishing those who were responsible for going to war, they decided that the whole German nation should be punished, and the whole nation would be responsible and foot the bill for all the damage caused. This resulted in massive inflation, and economic devastation, and political instability for Germany, making it rife for takeover by extremists. In the late 1930s, several ships left Hamburg full of Jewish refugees. The ships were turned away from the USA, Cuba, South America, and England, and had to return to Germany. Many of the families committed suicide before the ships reached Germany.

David, there were many nazis all throughout europe. every country collected their bolsheviks, jews, roma, gays, mentally disabled, physically disabled, anti nazis, etc. and handed them over to the death camps when the germans moved in. you know what happened to the indigenous people of what is now the usa and the jim crow laws that the nazis used for guidance while creating their own programs. isn’t it time you got past what you were told in class as a kid and learned the true history of northern and western europe, the usa, canada and capitalism?

A voir....

@Kurroda, Belgium has a temperate, maritime climate predominantly influenced by air masses from the Atlantic. Rapid and frequent alternation of different air masses separated by fronts gives Belgium considerable variability in weather. Frontal conditions moving from the west produce heavy and frequent rainfall, averaging 30 to 40 inches (750 to 1,000 mm) a year. Winters are damp and cool with frequent fogs; summers are rather mild. The annual mean temperature is around 50 °F (10 °C). Brussels, which is roughly in the middle of the country, has a mean minimum temperature of just below 32 °F (0 °C) in January and a mean maximum of about 71 °F (22 °C) in July.

What are you using for brain cells, buttons? Many parts of the western world are actually like you, siding with the hostage killers. Thats right, the same ones using their citizens as human shields and who have repeatedly turned down ceasefire offers, store weapons in or under schools and hospitals, and who murder hostages rather than return them. Try being informed instead of opinionated and try getting your information from reliable sources instead of the biased media.
