Great review, appreciate you checking it out, and looking forward to seeing how the mod comes out. This design definitely could have been a CJRB knife, but the custom thumbstuds, the weight relieving done to the liners, the 3D sculped clip and Ti hardware pushed it into a slightly more premium category. There should be some exclusives on the way with micarta or titanium handle scales and upgraded blade steel that will be even better. I have some of the same nit picks as you that I would love to address in future versions, but you're right that the ergos and blade performance were top of my list for this design and I think this might be the thinnest ground, best slicing knife Artisan has put out, really happy about that.

Ooh! This will be an insta-buy for me the moment that it comes out in a better steel.

Nick, I was just on your website reviewing the your recounting of the design process for the Ahab. This should be required reading for anyone interested in what it takes to bring a new concept to market! Incredible story detail - well done! The Ahab will be my next purchase, and I look forward to seeing more scale options. I also look forward to seeing more new and innovative designs from you, produced for the mass market!

I completely forgot about this one. Just ordered it off Amazon for about $50. Not bad to use as a beater

The way I understand it Artisan and CJRB are seperate companies that are owned by two different people but share a production line. Artisan is owned by a guy in the USA and CJRB is owned by a Guy in China. The two of them are very close friends though and they share the same production line along with their propriety ARRPM9 steel. This is according to Mike Emler. I think that is why we see some crossover products from both companies. The knife itself looks awesome and the price with discount is pretty good for what your getting. It looks like an amazing slicer along with good action and perfect blade shape for EDC. For my type of usage might be a bit too thin but for average EDC looks great. Thanks for the great vid Kevin and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable

This thing is cool as hell though. I dig the blade shape and the handle, the custom thumb studs and the ‘Moby Dick’ connection. I need the wood scaled one.

I have the model with wood scales, it's my favorite EDC for now. Only thing I really don't like about it is the clip seems like it is only one screw and it moves from side to side a bit which will eventually mar the scale if I keep carrying it. The blade itself is super-super slicey. Will probably pick up a new version if it gets a v2 with micarta scales and a clip that doesn't wander.

I really like the knife. It's different but in a good way. I'm not a big fan of those types of thumb studs but I was wondering the same thing about putting a pill shaped hole in it. I'm a CNC mill machinist so I'm definitely going to get one and attempt to do it.

White scales would be amazing and fit perfectly with the origin story of the name .. I hope we get a white G10 at the same price point as the black and wood ones ..
