A Wonderkid Squad with NO Work Rate | FM24 Experiment

In this Football Manager 2024 Experiment, we have a young wonderkid squad ocne again and this time we're testing work rate, or the lack thereof to be precise. Can they achieve anything, or will they just flounder and fade into mid table obscurity?

Noticed a few times - at the end when everyone is sold you’re always surprised they don’t spend much/balance ends up 0 - this is because of game coding, when the balance goes over ~£2.1bn it becomes 0 (something about 32bit integer). I’d recommend reducing the transfer fees to SA such that they don’t go over £2bn balance then they’ll be able to spend the money!

@@jayhuahua Been thinking about this, and I always hear talk about Composure and Decision Making being a lot more important than say, Finishing, for all out strikers (AFs). A wonderkid experiment with say 10 for every stat but 20 in Composure and 1 for Decision Making and Finishing (and likewise for Decision Making and Finishing). Or something to that effect!

Another great test ... thank you. From my FM20 save currently in 2053, there is a wonderkid with 5* potential which has dropped to 4* since. The thing I wanna mention though is that he has a 9 Workrate, and it has never increased for the past 3 years (18 - 21yo) with my club, best facilities, best coaches. He gets at most ~15 appearances, mostly from the bench. More importantly, the coaches talked specifically about his Workrate, that he would never make it in the club if it doesn't improve. From your video, I see why now ... 👍

So a 5* player initially will be from minimal scouting. It's a broad range and when they get to your club, your scouts and coaches get a better reading of them and their true potential comes through. Also it is relative to your squad. If for example you have a 5* wonderkid at 170 PA, but then go and buy 3 more players at 180 PA, the 170 PA player is no longer 5* by the logic that the squad is better and stronger in terms of the PA. If you want to harness wonderkids and their potential better, check out Evidence Based Football Manager (EBFM) - He deep dives into the small details and does great tests with graphs and charts. Not like me who just sims and shouts at the screen haha

@@jayhuahua haha ... no, you are good in your way (although EBFM is really superb). Do get some good sleep though. 😅 nod nod about the star ratings. Because I dont use the editors and skins to look, I cannot see the actual CA/PA, so the stars will have to do. If anything, I like to look at avg ratings, esp if there are from the same league. If the guy is a 7.2+ or even just 7.0+, he's good enough. Used to snap up bargains from relegated teams in FM06 and made them part of my Treble team, ha.

Haven't got FM24 but I know David Trezeguet, who is a scout on the game, is called Maxime Sorin. Kahn is Jens Mustermann

Seems like a huge effect. That squad should be winning the league more or less every season based on their CA, with a few CLs on top.

Interesting experiment. Kind of weird how they did nothing at club level yet so many where england capped and england did quite well.

I think it's because a few other players will have good work rate and balance the team out internationally

New experiment iedea( I dont know if u done it before) So U make a seperate leauge with no promotion or relegation and make 20 teams. Team 20 is 200 rated players, team 19 is 190 rated players, team 18 is 180 rated players. And so on till team 1 with 10 rated players. And sim a season to see if everyone finishes in order : Team 20 first team 19 2nd team 1 last etc. Or will there be an upset like team 6(60 rated players) being above team 7( 70 rated players) . I really like the idea so I hope u make a video on it

Work Rate doesn't really impact player development, it has more to do with how they perform on and off the ball. From FM... "A player with a high work rate rating will constantly be on the move, looking for opportunities to contribute to their team's performance. They will be willing to chase down opponents, make tackles and interceptions, and generally work tirelessly to win the ball back and maintain possession. In addition, they will make runs forward to support their attacking teammates and create scoring opportunities. Off the ball, a player with a high work rate will be constantly looking to get into space and make themselves available for passes. They will be willing to drop back to defend when necessary and help their team maintain their shape. Additionally, they will be willing to put in extra effort during training sessions, constantly striving to improve their skills and fitness. Having players with high work rate ratings is particularly important for teams that play a high-pressing style of football, as it allows them to win the ball back quickly and maintain possession in the opponent's half. It can also be valuable for teams that rely on counter-attacking, as players with high work rates can quickly transition from defence to attack and catch the opposition off guard" Hence your players that were receiving playing time developed, but with the 4-2-3-1 Gengepress tactic Ebbsfleet seemed to use, the poor work rate resulted in mediocre team performances. Strange how a few players notched their Work Rate above 10 after they turned 30 and their skills began to diminish. They have to compensate somehow.... Goalkeepers don't necessarily need a high work rate, as they aren't running up and down the field, which might explain why your GK was the only player to reach full potential. Additionally, Ebbsfleet had poor facilities when these players were young, thus poor facilities + poor work rate = slower development. Work Rates seemed to improve as Ebbsfleet invested in training facilities.

Just here to remind you about integer overflows. The club finances roll over at £2.1 billion and go into the negatives. That is, unless SI finally extended club finances to using 64-bit integers.

Interested to see two players, exact, same position, exact same club, but they differ with their reputation. One player has insanely high reputation, the other one no one has a clue who he is. How would that affect his career path and future teams?

Hmmm I like that as a concept. However their rep changes quite quick so will have to potentially play around with current ability and potential ability to see if it can harness interesting results

Interesting series. My brother and I are playing an old save together on CM4. He asks me about what makes a good signing and I always look at work rate, determination and teamwork. I've noticed that most keepers don't need high work rate to be good!

Teamwork seems to be very, very important in later FM games. In my current FM20 save in 2054, there is a 3* CM who has average stats but 18 for Teamwork. Can play very well ... he did get to 16 Workrate too, so maybe he's a Park Ji Song for the team? 😅

Yeah... tbh in lower leagues pace is key. So it might be super interesting. Plus Pace is a great attribute for views so I don't need my arm twisting to run a variance of an experiment incorporating Pace 👍 would you have max pace and acceleration? Or would you have just pace, with acceleration in the mid teens? I'm thinking max for both, then we can do minimum for both as well. Because why not ay haha 👍

Build an entire squad of people called Dave from the game, best squad you can create, then lock them all in to 20 year contracts and block them moving away and see how far the Daves can get

For betting in the uk the first number is how much profit you will make if you bet the number E.g 4/1 you will get 4 pounds profit for every pound you bet

Yeah I'm curious as to how staff attributes are calculated for players. I want to get a player who ends up as a staff member in an experiment video, prob have to be longer though, working on the logistics

@@jayhuahua If nothing is filled in in the pre game editor under staff attributes/roles, I'm guessing it's totally random, but i haven't experimented too much on it myself.
