A Wood Turning to Remember

For those that fell on the fields of battle, a project in their honor for this Memorial Day.
I will never forget them or take their sacrifice for granted.

As I watched this video I was thinking about my dad. He passed in 2014 and I could never get him to talk about his service. I over heard ( when I was a kid) tell a fellow veteran that he had dropped mortars in a tube until both hands were solid blisters. After he passed my mom told me that he was in the Philippines and was at Iwo Jena and Guadacannal. I did get to tell him that he was my hero. I was in my sixties. Sitting here now with tears in my eyes for the men and women who served to keep our Nation free.

I normally don’t like the silence videos but this was fitting. I found myself thinking about the past wars and troops the whole time. It was like magic when you broke through the bottom to reveal the remembrance. The silence was golden.

Sometimes there are no words for feelings amongst other things. Therefore I bow my head in due respect to those who served for our freedom and peace. My grandmother always spoke well and kind of the American soldiers she met. She had American friends up to the day she died here in Germany. Beautiful piece and well done.
