I have a Martin S1 Uke and it is my favorite Soprano, even though it is done in Mexico the craftsmanship is second to none, there are no imperfections, the volume is high, you can feel the vibration from the fret board to the body...its my favorite!!! Looking forward to have a 5K

Bought a Martin 2K concert earlier this year. It plays wonderfully. Has a lot of volume. And makes my previous ukulele sound like nylon strings on a two by four piece of wood. It’s a nice $300 ukulele, but the difference in sound quality is mind blowing.

Great video Chris! Magnificent instruments. Just got one, and I love it! Pairs well with my D28M and 000-17. My Martin family is growing, and I couldn't be happier. Thanks for posting. Kind regards!

Glad to hear that Martin is making Tenor Ukes now. The sopranos are awesome but a little small for my hands. I can't wait to try out one of the Tenors!

I used to play keyboard and e-bass, but there was always something missing. It showed to be a ukulele! Today I play the ukulele every day. One Martin and one Eastman are the jewels in my collection, containg some 26 ukuleles 🥰

I grew up in Palmer and always knew Martins were great but, like us all, I grew up and moved away. I recently went on vacation in Maui and every time I went uke shopping I kept hearing that the Martins were the ones everyone wished they owned. I then decided to call my local music shop(In Leesburg, VA) and hold the one I had been playing every time I went in. I bought it when I got back from Maui and I made the drive back to Nazareth to have it checked out the very next day. And... to stop for a cheesesteak close by of course. Martin's customer service took their time checking it over making sure everything is perfect. They gave me tips on maintenance and I went home with a gorgeous looking and sounding C2K. It plays beautifully. Can't wait until Martin Days in August. See you then!

Is that a Martin tiple ukulele in the background (the lightest one, it may be spruce but I'm not sure)? I have a K Yasuma tiple ukulele that was modeled after a Martin and is from the 70s. I'm just curious, I suppose.

Did Tiny Tim play a concert?
@mikehalloran13412 жыл бұрын
No. Herbert Kaury (his real name) played 0 and 1 sopranos, both righty and lefty. He was a right handed player who switched to left in an effort to cure his migraine headaches - said it worked. There are tv appearances of him playing both ways. He was never as good playing left handed so he always played guitar as a righty.

interesting article. Family history is great. I'd still plump for a vintage in good order as opposed to a new Martin though. Call me old fashioned.

Can't wait to get the Style 2 soprano. I'm playing Gibsons, a Uke-3 and a Uke-2, both 17 fret, and am very happy you went with the 17 fret necks. While I love the vintage Martin ukes as well, I believe Chris is right when he says that these are the best Martin ukes. And for those with big hands, I also play a couple National 12 string guitars, 2" nut width... no problem with the soprano size, I find it very fun switching off.

I wouldn't mind buying a Martin to be my signature Uke, but I never spend more than 1,000 on a stringed instrument and I probably never will. And I'm sure Ukes crafted by Hawaiians are the best even when their cheap.

Heh, ten years later the idea that Martin could build a better ukulele than the Hawaiians didn't stand up very well. I mean, they're good but the best you can say is that they can hang with the K brands. And UGH @ Tiny Tim. He's almost solely responsible for killing the popularity of the ukulele for 30 years.
