@@Pinkielover Can't see your main comment either. Would need you to explain "worst car ever owned". Certainly hope you're talking about a 2014+ one too, as anything before that was a Ford. Actually just watched one of the videos on your channel, if it's the car in your video that definitely looks like a 2nd Generation (this is a 3rd generation review). Completely different cars; one is Ford and the other is true Mazda. We're talking about the latter.

@@Pinkielover The car featured in the video on your channel is a mk2 and obviously US spec. As such, it will be built in the US and use Ford sourced drive trains. This mk3 has no relationship to Ford, just like every other Mazda product these days.

Happy to hear that people are slowly coming around to this car and this brand. I've always been a Toyota guy, but around the time they launched the SkyActiv generation of their cars, I started paying attention... I've owned a Soul Red 2015 GT, 2.5 Petrol (written off by insurance in an accident unfortunately) and now a 2017 GT 2.5 Petrol. I do believe they represent great value for money. I would rank my gripes similarly to yours: 1. My new car is Blue Mica, not Soul Red :( ...No Red available in my area used, like you 2. The auto-locking is quite aggressive. Can't walk to the other side of the car or the boot without having to unlock again. Can't say I have the issue with the triple locking though; my advice would be to be more "confident" when pushing the door unlock button on the handle, I've done the "unlock-lock-unlock" only when I'm half-heartedly pressing it. 3. The GPS is a bit lack-lustre; I do want the Android/Apple upgrade 4. Road Noise is true. This is fixed in 2018 and newer, unfortunately for us. 5. Infortainment a bit clunky, yes. 6. Car drives great but isn't the easiest to work on. Suspension components and sub-frame are all cast/stamped steel. It shows you where they saved money/how they hit the price they did. These just tend to rust out in my climate (Toronto, Canada). In regards to your other points, I don't have issues with bass rumble in my 2017, however my 2015 yes. Driver's heated seat seems fine for me. Takes a couple minutes to get going from a cold start, but definitely works fine (gets very hot, even on 1/3 level). I would put my plusses as follows: 1. Exterior and Interior Styling. This is my main motivation for the car over the competing Japanese sedans in the segment. Honda, Toyota, take notice of what Mazda is doing here. 2. Reliability. Besides typical maintenance, the SkyActiv platform is proven and built in Japan (save Mazda 2/3 [entry model] which is Mexico -- not relevant to the 6 though) 3. Sportiness. I would say that it is a bit "underpowered" (at least by North American tastes) for the 2.5 Petrol, keeping in mind it's 186/186 HP/TQ versus about 170/330 for your diesel -- much more torque on the diesel. Overall ride/handling though is very confident and fun to drive. Definitely a reason to look at this car. 4. Comfort and Practicality. Seats are very comfortable. Didn't realize it until I sat in nearly every other car at a car show a few years back. Mazda knows what they're doing here with "Jinba-Ittai" (look it up). Also love the cargo room with the seats down. I am looking forward to the next-generation where they take things up a notch. Check out the 2018+ (4th Generation) Mazda3 for an indication of what's in store. A true "jag" straight-6 and rear wheel drive is coming for next generation. And to all the haters/nay-sayers on this regard... Why did Toyota just invest billions in a joint venture plant with Mazda in the U.S. and increase their shares in Mazda? Because they're going to share this upcoming platform with *Lexus*. That should be an indication that they're doing something right. Cheers, keep enjoying your Mazda for years to come.

@jbm0866 7 ай бұрын
@christopherdunn5799 I really hope you're right about the next gen 6 having Mazda's rear wheel drive platform and straight 6, (in either hybrid or turbo form) but I've heard Dave Coleman (engineer for Mazda North America) say the platform underneath the CX-90/70 was designed for SUV only, and they arent sure they can make it work for a low slung sedan. Obviously I don't know the details on that, but hope they can make it work. As for Toyota adopting Mazda powertrain for Lexus, I've heard the opposite unfortunately. Things could change, but last I heard Lexus was going all EV. Hopefully they change course and make at least a few models (IS?) that can take advantage of the straight 6 and rear wheel drive. *Crosses fingers*

I've got my 2015 Mazda 6 2.2D for 6 years now and my car has also been reliable. IMO start/stop works great and I get around 48 Mpg on a motorway easily. It drops to below 40 Mpg in town though. I do agree with your road noise point - it's not great, but I can recommend Goodyear Efficientgrip Performance 2 tyres. I've noticed big reduction in road noise when I had Toyo tires replaced with Goodyear

I miss this car a lot. Owned a 2015 Mazda 6 for almost ~160K kms, it felt luxurious and had zero issues. The misty window is now a trend even on new models, I believe it has something to do with ice not clumping, they want you to use the AC on the windows instead. The GPS on those Mazdas are a bit off, I find it easier to use Waze using Apple Car Play. Awesome video, Dr Jake!

Picked up 6 estate from a main dealer 2 years ago. 15 plate with 7500 miles, came from an old couple who didn't really use it that often. Still had all the internal plastic door and boot protection from the factory for some reason. Been driving VW's for the lst 30 years. The last 2 were 2litre petrol Passats. The first one was brilliant (B3 series) took it to 200,000 miles and still pulling like a train! Traded that for a B5.5 petrol estate. At around 100,000 miles things started to go wrong. Usual Passat gremlins, flooded interior, ruined ECU situated under passenger footwell, ABS problems, central locking failure. Last straw, sticking valve bucket on start up, sounded like a tractor for 5 seconds. Used .75 of a litre of oil every 800 - 1000 miles!! Had to go. The 6 estate, 2 litre petrol has been faultless over 20,000 miles. Economy is outstanding. We do a 550 mile round trip to the Lake District a few times a year and the Passat would need refuelling to get back home. The 6 will go all the way there and back and I can drive around for a couple of days too. I've had 45 - 50 mpg loaded with mates and walking kit at a steady 80 mph. Never paid more than £300 for a service at main dealer. Couple of odd quirks, no low level washer fluid warning, dip stick in washer neck, what's all that about?? Door mirror knob not illuminated, allways fiddling in the dark to adjust mirrors. Otherwise, really enjoying the 6 and will certainty have another next year. Cheers all. Ozzy, UK.

I'm not sure if I want another car living in London. Nightmare expensive parking. Nightmare congestion charge. And people who come round and cut out your catalytic converter in 3 minutes. Dr.Jake, good eye with the Jag reference. As an ex-pat in the U.S. I yearned for a Jag for years. I'm now exiting a lease of my absolutely dashing 2018 metallic black XF which I will miss immensely because I'm not crazy about the 2021 version and to be honest, the car was never trouble-free to begin with. The Mazda 6 definitely has cat-like curves, a similarly shaped grill and scowling headlights. I've been eyeing it for months and now Mazda has dropped the axe on 2022 model year. It's return in 2023 hasn't been guaranteed yet. I'm a mess. Thanks for your review. I feel I can always trust a fellow Brit in his/her attention to detail. Keep up the good work!

I like your concept of a car review. So I will do a quick one about my car a 10 plate Nissan Note Tekna manual 1.5DCI which I have had for 4 years and bought at 38K miles on the clock and currently is near 93K miles now. The Good: 1) Storage you can easily personalise the way the storage is organised to your needs. You also have a lot of options 2) Fuel economy it's a diesel and does 66mpg on combined 3) Engine is near bulletproof 4) Surprisingly a really comfortable car for it's size to drive in I have driven from Southampton to near Forfar in this car twice 520 miles (or 4 times if you include the return journey) and I have never felt tired driving the car mainly because of the cruise control and comfy suspension. 5) It's a quiet car for a diesel once it idles properly and you can easily forget it is idling especially if the radio is on. 6) Insurance is cheap. Road tax is cheap. You can pay easily £360 a year for both combined. 7) Repairs, parts and servicing are sort of cheap it's a really common car in the UK. Consider using a Nissan Dealership really. 8) It truly is a Multi Purpose Vehicle despite it's size. The Bad: 1) The suspension does seem to be fragile, luckily I had a warranty on this car. Most of the work needed done was on the suspension and chassis. My 2 previous Nissan Almera's were the same. Suspension is especially the front seems to not be a Nissan strong point at all. Avoid potholes where possible. 2) It's an old car and they are not supporting the sat nav no longer. Don't rely on it for long journeys. 3) The boot design seems to frequently destroy your rear windscreen wiper and windscreen wash nozzle connections to the point you may as well forget about it. The fans don't deal with moisture too effectively either. The Ugly: 1) The engine is 89 BHP. On motorways and dual carriage ways it is fine and the cruise control is utterly fine. No Problem. On a country style road and when your tailing a person doing 40 mph up and downhill your going to be changing gear really often just to maintain the power/revs and when you have an overtake possibility you have to floor it. The car can shift but you have to know how to gear it. It's not plain pedal to the metal. 2) The car is ugly simple as but not as ugly as the Almera. 3) The car has great leg room depending on storage set up but awful width and if you got a spreader for a passenger your fighting for the gearstick. 4) the arm rests are pointless they get in the way of the handbrake and the gearstick. leave them folded up. Overall: Its a massively practical car. Not a fashion statement. Generally reliable. Cheap to run. Comfy to drive. The one statement to describe the car. "It's an MPV in disguise". It's more than a hatchback. It's kind of the worst mix of hatchback and MPV that the combination is actually greater than the sum of it's parts. It's like they got the worst parts of this car...RIGHT

That is the secret behind those skyactiv-d motors. They need to be driven and driven hard from time to time. Most people buy em and do alot of small 5km radius town/city driving which buggers the dpf cloggs injectors cause its not being driven how it should be. Alot of people dont realise that doing a few 20km trip at 100kph in a fortnight really helps the motor live longer than someone driving in a city or a township not doing any speed more than 60kph. And short trips.

I've just done the android auto/apple car play upgrade myself. It's great having Google maps on the head unit as I've got the assurance I'm on the quickest route with the most up to date traffic info. Makes a huge difference on my daily commute in and out of London. For the install, I found it useful to have some string and something quite long and heavy (a 6" extension bar for a socket set). I could drop it through the dash behind the head unit, tie to the cables and pull it up through the back of the dash. Also it helped me thread the cables under the arm rest. I pulled up the centre console (gear stick and control buttons) took off the rear air vents and threaded the cable under the arm rest cubby as I could not for the life in me figure out how to lift it out.

Although android auto doesn't accept touch input. Even when stationary. But thats not an issue as I'm used to using the dial for inputs now and Google voice assistant is infinitely more useful and reliable than Mazdas. When Google maps gives audio instructions, it interrupts audio on all speakers, instead of just the drivers speaker like Mazdas own navigation. I didn't realise how annoying that was in town with lots of directions close together. I now have Google maps set to give audio for alerts only. I still find the benefits of having my phone on the head unit, Google maps and Google assistant outweigh these two minor issues. I am at a loss of where to put my phone now though when it's connected.

The Bad bits from my 2020 Mazda6 (2.5L gasoline): Mazda paint is a known problem, it chips ridiculously easily. The USB phone connector jams the cable up against the glovebox cover (a 90 degree cable fixes this). The low-profile rims and stock Falken tires are rather noisy and you get a bit of a rough ride. The Adaptive Cruise/Emergency Brake Assist sometimes triggers on shaded overpasses (common with many cars). The Mazda GPS/satnav app isn't worth buying - better to use Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. The good bits: Even the Naturally Aspirated engine gets out of its own way when you nudge the pedal. The lane-keeping minder gives you haptic feedback thru the wheel rather than shrilling at you with an alarm. And it looks really good, inside and out - my white-on-sand 6 is a very sharp looking car. The smartphone connector in a glovebox is a great way to keep a driver's phone out of sight and out of mind.

The absolute biggest issue I have with my 65-Plate 2.2 (175) 6 sport Nav is the constant Regen Cycle the Engine does to keep the DPF clean. Annoying when you can’t park the car as it needs to finish the cycle, but every 140 miles is something else. Touch screen...yes, not the best quality, I don`t usually use the touchscreen (the console is good enough for me), however I did not notice that happening after I had Android Auto/Apple car play (I do not have your issue with the GPS anymore). Be careful of the Mazda diesel engines, the timing chain can stretch (£1800), £3500 bill if it does damage. The oil pickups can get blocked, so can run low on oil and also carbon deposits are an issue. Get this car serviced by a Mazda Specialist every year without fail.

My brother owned the 2.2 diesel. He loved it But ! On a steep hill his car broke down. Came up with an ABS fault and couldn't move the car. Had to be towed to a garage where they diagnosed that the engine was stuffed. There is an oil reservoir which had overflowed and had no where to go and the oil got sucked into the turbo and then into the engine. And this was car that had been serviced in the dot by a Mazda agent since new.rhey offered to replace the engine but the technician said it would only be a matter of time before it did it again . Apparently there is design fault with the 2.2 diesels. So he swapped the car for the 2.5 petrol which doesn't have this problem. Hope this helps because I like your reviews ! Interestingly I have the jaguar xf ( and thinking of changing it for a mazda 6 or toyota camry) and my dad has an x type 2.1 petrol.

I know you say you bought the car in 2020, but unless I missed it, nowhere in the video do you say what year model it is? You say it's noisy, but I have a coworker with a 2019 signature (turbo engine) and have gone to lunch with him a few times and found it to be a very quiet car, at least on par with my 2021 Mazda 3 turbo hatch...and the latest gen 3 is known for good sound insulation. I really do like the Mazda 6 (except for the rear styling which you mentioned) but I prefer the size and driving dynamics of my 3 a bit better. I do think the seats in the 6 are a bit cushier than my car, but that may be due to the Napa leather whereas mine just has standard (but still reasonably soft) hides. I really hope Mazda does a 3rd gen 6 with the new rear drive architecture and straight 6 hybrid...with a turbo option of course. That car (if done right) could inspire me to trade in my Mazda 3😎

If I had to do it over again I would not change a thing. The only thing I do not like is the headliner material is coming apart so I will remove it and change the fabric and be done with it.

There's a place way down in the bowels of hell for car vandals. I once had a bloke tip Coca-Cola in my fuel tank. Thankfully a neighbour saw him do it and let me know immediately as soon as I noticed the filler cap still open. It still cost a fair whack to get the car towed to a garage and have the fuel tank drained, but probably way cheaper than it would've been had I tried to start it and caused serious damage. People are so territorial when it comes to parking spaces, and will happily cause you all that stress and expense just to prove their self entitled point.

I hate the electric parking brake on mine. Twice it has applied itself fully while I was driving. Dealers can't find the problem. I worry about it. The cruise control doesn't always work right. Sometimes it speeds up and won't stop. I have to apply the brakes to make it shut off. Sometimes it works perfectly. Dealers can't find the problem. I have the same door unlocking and locking issues you have. Other than those annoying problems, it seems to be good. It has 84,000 miles on it now. It has the 2.5 gasoline engine. On long trips, I get about 38 mpg with 10% ethanol. The parking brake scares me. I'll never buy another car with an electric parking brake.

Sorry to hear about your electric parking brake issues. I've owned a 2015 Mazda 6 GT 2.5G (last year for cable e-brake) until it was totaled in an accident.... Took the insurance payout and bought a 2017 GT 2.5G again. No issues with the electric parking brake, use it every time I park. In regards to the radar cruise control; I've only had this issue once, I believe it was on my 2015 car. Generally if this happens it's due to inclement weather and the sensor is covered in mist or road salt or other. I only noticed it during a particularly misty rain. Never had issues since. Typically I only use the radar cruise control to give my legs/foot a rest though. You always have to pay attention to how it keeps distance to the car in front of you. Hope you continue to enjoy it.

Engine replacement at 68,000 miles on my Mazda 6 and I baby the car I've replaced just about everything on it anything with rubber has failed .. I could give you the list it's pretty long... The only thing that was covered that I got done for free was the front Cat converter It went out around 65,000 miles and the dealer did it all free because it's covered under federal warranty up to 80,000 miles...Mind you the mazda dealer thought I was a dumbass And was actually going to charge me $2300 to do it When I told them that it's covered under federal warranty... Had a used engine put in with 23,000 miles on it ...the engine was about $1,200 and came with a five year warranty and 50,000 miles. Labor came out to about $1900 to do the actual engine swap... I would've done it all myself ,,,but you need an ASE certified technician in order to get the engine warranty... another place wanted $2500 to do it... I had the engine shipped and it took about 15 days so I had a rental car for about a month because it all happened during the pandemic...rental car for 1 month $800. And since the engine was removed I had the stabilizer bushings done for about $200 Which is pretty hard to do on the Mazda 6 because you need to drop the sub frame... So about $4000 total out of pocket... With the rental car,,,the engine and install.. And this is half the stuff I've done to the car,, I've done both CV axles myself,,,All four brakes and rotors ,AC compressor,,, you name it I've done it ... Once the car is gone because I still currently use it every day I will never buy a mazda again...And if you were wise you wouldn't buy one. my next car will be either a Toyota/lexus .... It's sad too because I always owned a Mazda ... Starting with my first car it was a Mazda RX 7.. If you're wondering what happened to my cars engine it Threw multiple engine bearings... It was far cheaper to get a used motor and get a good warranty on it..Then it would be to rebuild the engine... Far cheaper

I forgot to add clearcoat failure In a few locations on the car... The car is going to need A full repaint / clearcoat redo from front to back.. Or I might just get the car custom vinyl wrapped.. I'm undecided... To be honest I'm just very very very very disappointed in the car.... yet I still love the car it looks great ,And handles OK and I know how to work on the car pretty well since I've done just about everything to it... The current things I need to finish on the car front struts ,, both tie rod ends and both stabilizer links.. Then my complete steering system will be Completely replaced because I've done everything already... Like I said any piece of rubber has dry rotted and ripped apart.. I live in Arizona ...but still it shouldn't fail that soon.. with 60,000 ish miles on it

The start/stop is so funny. I see people stop for a moment and the car shuts off and starts up like wtf? Only the Prius and a couple other cars are specifically made to do this. All other cars have normal starters that'll just wear out faster, not to mention the cold starting that happens when the oil leaves the engine in between starts. It's expensive to build a car for this to work properly so don't be fooled, Mazda sure as hell isn't giving you a car made for this at that price point. The Chevy Equinox has that feature too and isn't made for it. All this stuff cars are loaded with these days is becoming a cluster that just adds potential problems later on.

With integrated Apple car play I don’t use the Mazda system at all. I did have an issue with the locking where it drained the battery in a matter of minutes.
