I just hit 30..I have saved around 50k USD in 5 years with a salary of around 13k per year..living costs are low in my country and not much into outing unless its a hike..finally taking out a rental house on leverage with a 30% downpayment and then leasing it for rental income..will try to save more so I can travel more from time to time..goal is to make it to a million before 37..best of luck to all dirty thirties

There are some academic theories on life cycle investing, whereby younger people should deploy a reasonable amount of leverage to boost their returns as they have a long runway to earn it back. Within your team, do you believe in that or is your team more adverse towards leverage? Within your team, have you employed a leveraged strategy though mortgage loans or margin loans? Or utilising CPF as an investment tool?
@TheFifthPersonChannel3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jie Lun, we personally don't use leverage for stock investing as the markets can be volatile as witnessed during the COVID-19 crash. Anyone who was over-leveraged then would have been in a tight spot. We do use use CPF as an investment tool in very specific circumstances: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qV63e2WQqdR1nqM

Would contribution to your CPF SA be a separate bucket when building your defensive section of your investment porfolio? And on a similar note, would the amount controbuted to CPF SA monthly/yearly be taken from monthly savings?
@TheFifthPersonChannel3 жыл бұрын
Yes, some investors do treat their CPF SA as their long-term 'bond portfolio'. The extra $7,000 you can add to your CPF SA annually would come from your savings, as it is a voluntary cash contribution outside of your mandatory contributions from your salary.

Investing in your 60s incoming?
@TheFifthPersonChannel3 жыл бұрын
Hey FIRL, that would be awesome wouldn't it. haha. But everyone of us here at Fifth are not in their 60s, so... we don't really have much right to give an opinion on investing in 60s.
