I got a r3 about 3 months ago. I was looking at mt07’s but the insurance on one of those would not go through. I spoke to the insurance company and apparently they don’t let anyone under 21 on bigger bikes on their insurance policies, even though the bike would be a2 compliment...absolute madness

I got my 67 plate duke 390 for £3150 with 800 miles on the clock, not a sports bike but certainly goes to show what you can get with some budget. Thankfully it did have the warranty still. The early model 390's have a few issues. Thus far i've had the rear shock, cat and dash replaced.

So many options on the market...some of them almost new because of so many folks that get too soon tired of their motorbikes...for example, i know guys that buy new bikes and sell them only a year later to buy other new bike. Thanks to them i hage enjoyed so many good bikes for a fraction of the price when new...

About a year ago I got a Kawasaki ER6N with ~2500 miles on it with R&G bits (tail tidy, crash bungs etc) for 3.7k it’s a naked 650cc and seemed to be quite good for its price, insurance is not bad (age is a huge bummer though but it’s gone down by half now), upright riding position so comfortable, easily modded and easily worked on (getting a Haynes manual is a must) and extremely reliable. ~15k miles later and regular maintenance still rides like when I got it.
@AquaStun5 жыл бұрын
If anyone’s actually interested in it it shares the same engine and most of the parts with the ER6N which has some fairings.

I bought my cbf600 for £1100 which is really cheap (however it did need some work) and got it down from Sheffield that night. And I'm glad I got it restricted as it gives me the chance to learn the bike before having the full power which isn't a lot looking at the newer 600's but from a 125 is quite some difference.

Wanted to ask if it's cheaper to insure a bike which meets the a2 requirements or to restrict one
@spicy1105 жыл бұрын
There are so many factors to insurance, rarely could you say one thing will have a big impact on the end cost on one factor alone. Much of it has to do with you, where you live, where it's kept, level of insurance, local crime rate, the stats on how often that bike is stolen ect

@easternmenace5 жыл бұрын
Shame you skipped 250s the ninja 250 for example is as fast as my 660 was just has less lower end torque. And no mt03 does not need to be restricted they are right on the limit though so any performance upgrade or great weight reduction would make it unsuitable. Also gotta be careful with KTM 390, the older ones are too powerful for A2 and need to be restricted
@Mean-bj8wp5 жыл бұрын
Amazing to see how slow bikes are these days. What I mean is that the ktm rc 390 top speed 110mph my 1987 TZR 125 could do that I know it's a 2 stroke but even so. Think back to the mighty RGV250 that was crazy fast in every way. Thank you EU for the death of the 2 stroke.

Duke 390 and the RC are A2 legal according to KTM, Bennets, visordown, Lexham, Carole Nash, 2017+ versions, which puts it out of the £3 grand. Currently have the duke 390, but on a full licence, lovely piece of kit, handles the twisties around me better than any sports bike I've owned. Happily sat at 85 for a 350 mile motorway trip, tyres didn't appreciate it though. Spicy, you need to get your hands on one for a week, do a review, fun little machines.
