Thank you for this video, as always it was very informative! I think a fun/somewhat different video idea would be if Dean Z tells us about some of her favorite items/books from that bookshelf behind her. Her bookshelf as background has been with us for a few months now and I've certainly become curious-she has some cool stuff!!

Thank you so much for talking about military officers applying. I have watched nearly all of your videos, as well as several other channels, and this is the first time I have heard this answered. Is there anything specific you look for in military service (since you noted the general public may have limited knowledge)?

I don’t have a particular set of expectations for military service, and in my experience, there is an incredibly wide range of interesting work that people have in the military. That said, I do think the military provides outstanding (1) leadership and (2) teamwork opportunities, and I think those are worth highlighting, because they are particularly helpful in law school and in the legal profession.

I tried to Google a chipotty/chipotti with ann arbor, but got no results. Anyone know what this is?

A chipati is essentially a large pita stuffed with a salad. There are two main places that sell them - Pizza House and Pizza Bob's. We're not sure which is the original and will leave it up to you to decide which is better

@@umichlaw ah interesting. Not at all what I would've thought based on the name.

When looking at the job experience of an applicant, does the type of job play an important role in the decision process. For example I've worked different fast food and retail jobs ever since high school. (5 years) I haven't had the opportunity to work a professional job or do impressive internships. Would admissions look at that in an unfavorable way?

Great question. It’s going to depend on the given reviewer and school, I suspect. I personally love seeing retail and food service experience--succeeding in those environs means that you have necessarily developed skill at relating to people. The big benefit of getting some professional experience, though, is for you: If you hate that environment, you’ll know that there are many areas of legal practice you’re not likely to enjoy.

What is a "crunchy granola type?" I've never heard that to describe a person before you said it.

I wonder if this is just something that has passed out of the lexicon! When I was in college, we said this all the time. It is meant to connote someone who is a bit of a hippie-because in the 80s, only hippies ate granola, I guess. Times change! Now everyone eats granola, and we don’t really have hippies.
