Steve Pollock was my Div Officer. The camera was mounted iin place of the gunsight. He lives about 50 miles from me and I talked to him a couple of months ago.

Yes! Named when FDR was asked where did the Doolittle raid originate from, at a time when the US was pushed out of its Asia possessions. The raid forced Japan to consolidate the outright ring defense resulting in the naval battles of Coral Sea and Midway.

I can say the USS Shangri la was a good ship to serve on. I was fortunate to serve on her for 11 months. Went to Bremerton, Wash. in drydock wow what a site it is to see an aircraft carrier with no water under her. I also rode her around the horn of South America. We stopped in Peru, Chile, and Brazil before we ended up in Mayport, Florida. On April 9th when we were going around the horn the waves were 30 to 40 feet high we had no trouble.

I was with va-152 the mavericks aboard this wonderful ship. Started as a black shoe on the kittyhawk, got lucky transfered during a yard refit in bremerton and had the honor of meeting those wonderful scooter jockies. the pilots of va152 were the most inspiring and much more considerate , and respectful to the enlisted men'. was with engineering in the kitty hawk and was always dealing with paper work from captains mast, deserters, and trouble with the crew. Not ever a problem in that squadron. The ship was much more comfortable than the kitty hawk and seemed to have so much less technical issues. Jerry Sturm. i think that's how you spell it, was the skipper. he was a large beautiful and one of the finest examples of a leader and still a friend. he could barely fit his frame in that cockpit, but was the best pilot in the squadron and of course all the pilots were there because they loved to fly, not simply strive for promotion above all, like the black shoe navy.

I was on this cruise as an AO3 with VA-72, mess cook, plane captain, finally ordnance shop. Flight deck ran a lot better than the JFK.

William Larson don't be a punk. you just put comments on this video, cause veterans and the like watch them and comment and you most likely want attention and like to trigger someone and get a reaction. you are not going to make anyone change their point of view if anything you encourage them with your sniveling. if you want to change the world why don't you go to the hills with your little band of rebbels and come down from the hills at night and commit acts terrorism against your perceived enemies. that is how fidel castro and che guivera changed their world. I am sick of the social justice warriors who's only weapon is a computer mouse. Mao famously stated that power comes only from the barrel. history kind of proved him right. all the gi's i knew over there had no idea why he was there and didn't care about anything but pleasing their supervisor getting drunk and getting home.

yello hammer: i agree, i put this comment in the wrong place, i was bitching against someone else. I was with va 152 when this video was shot. those scooter jockies were the greatest officers and human beings i have ever met. all the guys wanted to do was FLY. we helped them and they were grateful, not like black shoe officers that only focus on promotions.
