There's a bug within OBS that makes it so sounds above (what I assume to be 255 decibels) suddenly gets muted, likely due to the audio buffer being overwhelmed in some way.

You sure the issue was OBS? I looked this up. Found plenty of people saying thus happened, but it was always due to their mic or sound card. There's an OBS *limiter* which you can configure to prevent streamers from deafening their audiences, but that's just auto-gain control, and it's a feature, not a bug.

It seems that behind the scenes, the audio coming from minecraft is being sent through a "Limiter", an Effect that normalizes the sound at peak by taking average volume over time and scaling it back down; If it was turned off somehow, it would hardclip instead (meaning anything over the maximum peak just stays at the maximum peak) , causing the "Deep-Fried" effect instead also hoping to see you find ways to break the way flowing blocks update (water/lava); would be funny to see what you can come up with
