@MrGeltabs The Barrett/psychedelic era stuff is more of an acquired taste. I first bought The Wall, then Dark Side and then worked backwards chronologically from the Wall, gradually buying their earlier stuff. While I both styles equally, I understand how the rock opera of The Wall is more accessible to a mainstream audience than Saucerful of Secrets and the like. This was only one and a half years ago, by the way so I'm relatively new to the game. I hope you found my life story insightful. :)

I always thought "come in Number 51- your time is up" was a (much) better title than "careful with that axe, Eugene". "Number 51" gives the song the feel of a science fiction dystopian nightmare (1984, Logan's Run, The Island). With "Eugene" however you think guy-with-hockey-mask-n-chainsaw-chasing-people-at-summer-camp...

every true PF fan knows that everything after Meddle is considerably softer and weaker, their early output is easily unmatched in music history.
@post.hack.depression8 жыл бұрын
While I do agree that their earlier years are vastly overlooked and underrated, I wouldn't hold that against their later work. A "true" fan will, in fact, be able to effectively appreciate and enjoy all eras of Floyd. I absolutely love '68-'71 Floyd.
@liammcnamara63078 жыл бұрын
WYWH is their greatest ever moment. But some of the excitement left the band after Meddle.
@parsareshite18 жыл бұрын
pink floyd up to and just after Syd Barrett left was probably the best music they made as a Syd fan I think his era was the strongest after that they were struggling to find a path that was best for the new line-up.
@keiths44917 жыл бұрын
That is a subjective argument. The Wall I would hardly call soft. Outside of One Of These Days, you could call Meddle soft. There are a massive amount of people who don't appreciate Echoes. Outside of maybe the Dead, nobody has heard of a 26+ minute song in that era. But I begrudge people who ask "What's Your Favorite Album?" like they would get any insight from your choice or like you can make a choice. They all are different or at least should be. The concept album is a dying art that should be appreciated more frequently. Who cares who's a "true" fan. It's Apples & Oranges, much like the PF song. What matters is what you like.

Try "The way out is through" by NIN if you're looking for something as epic and matching this.

There are a lot of comments here about how underrated the early Floyd is, but honestly, even though this track is amazing, most of their early songs are completely stupid if you're not on acid. The later albums, while more accessible, are more polished and have amazing melodies that make you say wow. It would be interesting, though, to see how the Floyd would turn out if they wouldn't have changed.

I don't think I would use the term "stupid" but I would agree that the early stuff is much more abrasive, drastic, and droning. Much harder for the casual music listener to enjoy. Takes some time to digest the depth of this kind of music.
