So glad I clicked on this video. I bought the latitude laptop in an auction thinking I was getting a new one and it was used. Now I'm going to try and do what you did so I can get it running faster for my son to use. He's not into gaming but he likes watching movies and videos. If you ever get a chance to pickup a Dell Latitude E6420 XFR, do so. I just picked one up for $400 on ebay, with the SSD, 4GB RAM, and the Core i7 2.7GHz Processor, its pretty dang fast.

I have a quick question for you. I have the identical same netbook. In the bios, it says, (Just as yours does in the video.), the ram is 667mhz. These things are slower than molasses at the north pole! It says on dell's website that the ram speed for these is supposed to be 1333mhz. Do you think swapping the 667mhz ram for some 1333mhz ram, will improve the speed in any noticeable way? (BTW This is definitely a hardware speed problem, not software.)

It might make load times faster but with a caviat that the apps already loaded in the memory (cached) will benefit and otherwise, only an SSD will show some substantial bump in performance.

hey I bought a dell latitude 2100 at a yard sale thinking that it was the same as the one in this video. I then installed chrome os but the damn thing is so slow its damn near unusable. should I buy some ram or just cut my losses and chuck it? Should i have used ubutu instead?

You should try a Acer Aspire One AO756, its a Intel Celeron CPU 847, Intel HD Graphics, 2GB DDR3 RAM, and it runs Windows 10 as a beast. And Why haven't you updated to Windows 10 from Windows 7 on your main PC.

Is that the model with the 1024x600 screen? Because modern Windows seems really clunky on anything less than 1366x768. I would have put my copy of Windows 7 Home or Ultimate on it :D
