Thanks for this amazing video! I'm from NYC and often go to the Danbury rail museum to see old railroad stock. That car with the wood interior at 6 minutes is just beautiful.

Thank you for the tour. They're all beautiful. I'll take San Marino as my favorite. I'm sorry Federal wasn't there. I think it's in Arizona somewhere, or was the last I heard. When the AAPRCO came to Hoboken, NJ, many years ago I was there for it. I don't recall how many cars were turned out for the event, but it was a lot and the place was packed. EL #3 was there and has since been bought by our local regional as their business car. It's back on home rails and still in beautiful condition.

San Marino is definitely a nice car. I wasn't familiar with Federal so I looked it up and it is beautiful! AAPRCO's website says it's based in Tuscon. Hopefully it will find its way to New Mexico sometime. If things change at Amtrak, I'm hopeful that there will be more PV excursions in the future. Thanks for watching!
@1940limited4 жыл бұрын
@@YardLimit Federal is also the oldest PV car still in operation and was a lackawanna Business Car for many years. In researching Lackawanna cars I came upon its history. I tend to "keep an eye on that one." Thanks for the reply.

These cars would beat a cruise ship.
@YardLimit4 жыл бұрын
When people started using airplanes instead of ships and trains to get from one place to another, the railroads should have done what the shipping companies did and change their business model to make the trip as fun as the destination.

Some cars are better than others though. I was pretty disgusted and disappointed when I toured ex-UP Pullman 6-6-4 sleeper National Forum. Lots of rust, not kept in good shape at all. A couple of the Zephyr cars were kinda meh as well. Silver Lariat was beautiful however, loved that car.

I wish I would have too, but I didn't realize it until later. To say they were distracting is putting it mildly.

Beautiful cars on the inside. Sad to see just 7 in the complement. In the old days there would be double this amount. Amtrak private car new regulations and lack of support to enhance larger public support for long distance train and dinning service will just have this all a thing of the past soon.

I was thinking the same thing. What's Amtrak's problem other than it's a government run entity which always makes for problems.

Two questions: One) how much of a hassle it is to get these cars on AMTRAK consists as I would assume it would be illegal with freight consists? Two) Can these cars be available in Canada? We do have some excellent scenery and these cars would be the ultimate! A most excellent video! Thanks for posting!

I thought Amtrak stopped hauling these cars a couple of years ago. I know people were upset but of course no one at Amtrak cared, as usual.
@YardLimit4 жыл бұрын
Amtrak didn't stop, they just made the requirements more difficult. There has been plenty written about their new rules which you can google if interested.

It’s too bad they demolished Albuquerque’s gorgeous Alvarado Station in the 70s. They eventually built a fake reproduction which should be torn down and the original put back in its place. It’s just horrible.
@YardLimit3 жыл бұрын
The transportation center is OK but it's nothing like the Alvarado. We used to eat lunch there when I was growing up and then watch the Super Chief come in.
@Alexander-rq9he3 жыл бұрын
@@YardLimit That’s amazing!! Everyone who knew it has wonderful memories. The Alvarado was a part of the community. Now it houses city office space and does not “belong” to us. There is nothing welcoming about it to arriving passengers - being skirted around the building’s north side. Denver’s station was restored and has been called the “living room” of the city as so many locals go there just to enjoy. There are plans to rebuild Penn Station. I wish we had a similar effort going here.
