This was announced a few days, presumably a claymation take on the world of Pokemon! But what exactly does that entail now that The Pokemon Company and Aardman Studios have shaken hands? Is this a tv series? A collection of shorts? Or perhaps a full-on feature? With Aardman making multiple moves to be seen as a bigger production (with collabs like Cartoon Network, Pingu and even Disney with Star Wars) perhaps this is emblematic of an even bigger project, teased 3 years early. It may just be might suspicions, but Aardman Might Be Making a Pokemon Movie...

Not quite as surprising as you're implying at 6:20 (though still unexpected) - Shawn the Sheep is apparently big in Japan, and Aardman have collaborated with Nintendo previously, doing 3d Shawn the Sheep shorts for the 3ds, alongside allowing Nintendo to use Shawn the Sheep as a Mystery Mushroom costume for the original Mario Maker. ...This isn't the Nintendo (or adjacent)/Aardman collaboration I dream about (That's Pikmin), but... It theoretically makes it more likely.

The look of this feels very artificial? Like, with Aardman and Laika stuff it feels cohesive, like an animated world. This looks like a bunch of toys, with this very harsh artificial lighting. Seems low budget or a strange art style choice. Maybe a way to sell toys? I dunno, just looks very strange to me.

The footage is from Pokémon Concierge, an existing Netflix series made by Dwarf Studios. There’s no official footage of the upcoming Pokémon/Aardman project yet.

Is it bad because they're British? Cause Aardman have a good track record. And in any case, america does this all the time (and always makes it worse) Like the time Disney took over Home Alone, or the time Disney took over Doctor Who, or the time Disney took over the Simpsons, or the time Disne- you get the idea, but damn this list is long. With a track record like Wallace and Gromit, Shawn the Sheep and Chicken Run under them, at worst, the movie will be just "good".
