@@Laura-ql4mg I think the reason they didn't change it to something like that is because I believe the animations for Lilo are the same, it's like they just edited over the dryer door. If that's what they did, it would still need to be something that swung the same way (open from the top), so they wouldn't have to re-animate more than they needed to, and I imagine "Lilo holding a pizza box" was like, eh, good enough. Not that it doesn't still look silly with the pizza haha 😅

i had to do a big essay on this in college and i think the coolest part about this movie is the writing. when nani is holding lilo and singing to her/ explaining she’s about to be taken away, it’s meant to be a huge metaphor for the united states forcefully annexing hawaii. the song aloha o’e (the song nani sings) was actually sung by the last ruler over hawaii, as a symbol of grief from losing their dynasty to the US

also!!! her pictures are meant to be taking pictures of tourists to kind of put the “tourist gaze” on their head. this movie really tries to embark on how hawaii has turned completely into a tourist ground and lilo is meant to be kind of taking the argument that “if they can take pictures of me and my home then i can take pictures of them too!”
