@@dannygherzgiher8430 you guessed right, I am a Canadian. My teacher however was from the UK but emigrated to Canada right after WW2. I’ll never forget one class we had a few days before Remembrance Day. He started telling us war stories and his mind wandered to a very dark place. He got that 1,000 yard stare and described hitting the beach. He explained that he was 19 (we were 15-16 years olds in the class) and had never been in combat before. You could have heard a pin drop in the classroom. He described the carnage so intricately that some of the girls ran out of the classroom crying. Today, he would have been fired for not giving trigger warnings or something. I walked out of that class with a whole new respect for this man. That same course is probably taught by some lefty millennial whose defining moment was organizing a protest in university. No wonder why these kids today are such wusses.

My ex-girlfriend was a teacher. She was actually one of the few good ones and she was very specialized (speech impediment specialist). She hated most of the other teachers and said they were delusional. They mostly bitched to each other about being overworked and underpaid. She heard these conversations in the teachers' lounge. Meanwhile my ex spent about 10 years after college working normal jobs and only went into teaching because I encouraged her. So dhe knew the difference between a normal 9-5 job and teaching.

I always get a kick out of 10, 20, and even 30 year teachers (and administrators) who complain they aren't paid enough, but could go on for days talking about the vehicles they own, second homes, boats/rvs/toys that they own, and vacations they have taken. They get a handsome retirement and are still able to work while retired. Meanwhile, new teachers are struggling and leaving the profession because no one will support them.

Yes, the participation trophies is what prevents a child from learning how to handle losing as well as removing the drive to be the best. Why strive to win three goals during soccer when just sitting in the grass will earn you the same trophy for everyone on your team?
