@@AaronHinesAuto how do you know if the power steering pump or the rack and pinion is bad? I’m working on a 2008 Nissan Armada and it has lost the power assist and the pump is making some funny noises. I have replaced the pressure hose today because I believe that where my leak was coming from.
@SteveP1164 жыл бұрын
I had a power steering pump noise. Thought it was cavitating. Changed the pump with a good looking pump from the junk yard. Then again worth a brand new pump from Autozone. Then changes the rack. After a bunch of work it turned out to be the altinator. Sounds pretty stupid but it was very frustrating and emberassing on top of that. Just putting this on here for others to contemplate. Hate for any on else to go through this.

Did it sound like a rattling noise? I thought mine was tensioner. Replaced it, still there. Now Im thinking steering or idler pulley.

How you doing brother, great video! I’m curious to see if the Cardone pump is still running strong 3 years later…. HITACHI is about $250 after tax and Cardone only $100 maybe Cardone is worth it.

Tips: The return line (from the cooler) is the smaller diameter hose. The supply hose is larger. Also, I didn't find it necessary to take the fender well off on my NV 3500 w/ 5.6l, I just used a 15/16" ratcheting wrench. From experience, taking the fender well off and putting it back on is a PITA. Also, I don't know how he was able to get the pump pumping oil through the system with the vehicle off. Power steering pump works by being driven from the serpentine belt, right? I had to start up my engine.

Question, you capped off the reservoir for the power steering fluid, you were filling the fluid, how did the fluid leave the reservoir into the dirty fluid tank????? How does that work?

Hi my local Autozone told me I could use normal power steering fluid in my Titan. My main pressure line is leaking some and haven't replaced it yet. Since taking out old fluid out with just a turkey baster I added normal power steering fluid. It seemed to work fine but now my power steering pump is making some noise, is it to late to replace fluid and save pump?

Better change the pump and make sure the pulley is tight or you can change the whole thing the pump and the pulley since the pulley us cheap

I did the same process and a 2005 frontier and my steering is now hard. There is no air in the system at all. No leaks. I applied a vacuum to make sure no air is in the system, also fluid is the correct level. What could be causing this problem? The previous steering pump was leaking which is why i replaced it but the steering only got hard when fluid got low
