Steve's downtaunt is a commonly used greeting in minecraft. Before the combat update that added shields one could block with a sword. it would often be paired with the sneaking and 'blocking' of one's swword as a respectfull greeting. Basicaly showing you mean no harm. These days its just the croutching and bowing of one's head.

26:49 Samus doesn't talk much in the Metroid series, period, and her Paralyzer (the gun she's using in Smash) in her home series doesn't give her any "whip" or other "tether" abilities; it's simply a non-damaging, paralyzing burst of energy that stuns for a little longer than Ice Beam. Her taunts showcasing her natural hyperagility, I can buy into that, but for the most part, all three of ZSS's taunts are Smash originals. She never whips around her Paralyzer (as her emergency pistol as stated in the Zero Suit sequence of Zero Mission, she never takes that risk) like that, and as of Brawl, they had no source material for Samus except for the manga and a five-minute gameplay stealth sequence in Zero Mission. Interesting take on it, though.

Little Mac's down taunt is more or less based on the shimmy he does to regain health on the Wii. After you knock down an opponent, you can mash the 1 and 2 buttons (or shake the controllers if you are playing with motion controlls) and Mac will throw practice punches and shake himself off, regening health in the process. Also, up taunt may be a reference to his injured victory pose, which is also referenced as a victory animation in Ultimate.

Revisiting this video and 3:40 Yoshi's taunt where he looks at the camera and waves his arms around is a reference to Yoshi's Story. In that game, Yoshi did that pose when he sniffed out hidden items in a level. 38:45 Lucario's "charging up aura" taunt, you said you couldn't find a specific reference. You answered your own question though: aura is Lucario's whole thing. In the main Pokemon games, the more damage Lucario takes until it faints, the more damage it does also. @@supermariofan That is not how the main pokémon games work. Only specific moves and abilities let you do more damage when you have been damaged, and none of them are Lucario's signature thing. Pretty sure Lucario doesn't have access to any of them, actually. The abilities pretty much exclusive to the starters, not sure about the moves. The only thing Lucario gets that might reference his aura functions in Smash is the ability Justified, but that only raises attack when hit with dark type moves specifically and makes no references to aura. Ken's down taunt is actually his intro animation and forward taunt from Alpha, and it later reappeared with a different animation in Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact. In regards to Robin's taunts, I only know of one VERY CLEAR reference. Fire Emblem Awakening, as well as Fates/Three Houses have skill activation messages. Cheekly little things each character says before they either activate a special skill - like Aether for example - or getting a critical hit. I'm fairly certain the moves they do are Smash original, but the quote comes from Awakening itself.

I hate to be that guy, but one of the Melee Falco's taunt lines, the one where he goes "逃がすかよ!" ("Nigasukayo!") actually translates to: "You're not getting away!" Also, Ken's side taunt is probably a reference to the little fist bump he does with Ryu in their exclusive round start animation in Street Fighter 3: Third Strike: Fight for the Future. (Yes, that is the full title. Yes, it has two subtitles. No, I do not know why.)

The "Teabag" from Minecraft Steve is indeed no teabagging, it IS a common used form of communication in greeting someone or saying thank u, like when someone brought u ressources you need. Sometimes it is even used together with jumping and punching, so Steve's other taunt. Also I don't know when teabagging became a thing but Minecraft players used this since the first days of online play back at the beginning of the 2010'ths, so...

Mario's side taunt in Brawl and Smash 4 is a reference to an animation that's only ever seen in the New Super Mario Bros. series when he clears a level. He spins once, takes his hat off, and puts it back on. Yoshi's taunt that he's had since the first game is likely a reference to the sniffing mechanic in Yoshi's Story, where, when you sniff out a secret, your Yoshi will look to the camera and wave twice. Luigi's peace sign was also in the original version of Super Mario World, where he had the same sprites as Mario, and his fingerguns could be a reference to one of his victory poses from Melee, where he also does double fingerguns. If we're really stretching, we could say that Dr. Mario's foot-grinding taunt could be a reference to Luigi's cup victory animation in Mario Power Tennis, where Mario does the same thing to Luigi's foot. Roy's side taunt is a better match for that sprite that you showed for his original taunt. Pit's neutral-air predates Kid Icarus: Uprising. That's not how "Reyn" is pronounced. It's pronounced like "rye." Also, Aura is based on ki, and manipulating ki is a thing a lot of martial artists in fiction can do, like Ryu from Street Fighter.

May be a bit of a stretch, but Dr. Mario grinding his shoe could be a reference to Mario grinding his shoe into Luigi's foot in Luigi's trophy celebration in Mario Power Tennis as it's one of the few times Mario taunts someone in a game outside of smash, not connected to Dr. Mario in any real way, but could've been a throw away, since he's an echo fighter of Mario

I think Charizard puffing out his chest might be a reference to his sorta tough guy personality in the anime. While I don’t recall any instance of him doing that exact pose I do remember he was very confident and stubborn. So puffing out his chest like that just makes sense

Can't believe you missed these details but Ryu's down taunt is actually a reference to Akuma, who takes this pose in both victory animations and during his shun Goku Satsui in street fighter 4,as well as sf2 and every other game he's in. Another one is Ken's side taunt. It's actually a reference to Ken's secret intro in third strike where he fist bumps Ryu, which the trailer also referenced
@thecatastrophe132
@thecatastrophe132 3 жыл бұрын
Ryu’s stomp taunt is really something Akuma does as early as SSF2 Turbo as his victory animation. Ryu does it starting in SFIII: 3rd Strike, where it’s his actual taunt, and it’s been synonymous with the masters of Ansatsuken style since, save for Ken (though the pose is actually more accurate to Akuma)
@blyat8832
@blyat8832 3 жыл бұрын
@@thecatastrophe132 actually fun fact, f you actually play sf3 Ryu holds his arm out in the same position as the parry animation,which is also recycled as Ryu's 10th taunt in USF4. Another character who does this is Makoto also does as a taunt in sf3 as well, so it's not the same as his down taunt lmao. Akuma did it first, and the only other person to have done it afterwords is Gouken, Evil Ryu, Oni, and Kage. Also what do you mean ken is more accurate? Lmao Ken has never done the stomp in his life.Get off your switch and play a real fighting game and you'll see what I am talking about. Smash can't tell you everything
