Two things: 1.) GPB100 for 100mil of this is insane. Maybe prices over there are much higher. I got the 100mil here in the states for about US60. 2.) I honestly feel that the Pour Homme line from Versace is amazing. basic pour homme, dylan blue, and oud noir are just stellar. I don't know if I can say about about any other entire line.

Fragrance notes: Not all of them. I've gotten better. I'm sure if I had a 'smell kit' of the most major scent ingredients used to program my olfactory sense... it would be better. That way I'd have something in memory to say "pink pepper smells like this. Coumarin smells like this. etc." To pick a single item of a fragrance other than patchouli & vanilla for me would be a task. I do know what I like after a year of collecting... but to pick it out by listed notes... tough.

I can paint a picture in my mind based on a notes list and yes, I will steer towards or away from fragrances based on the notes they list. If there is an interesting story behind the fragrance, especially one about the inspiration for the fragrance that explains something about the performance of the fragrance, I always like to hear it. Like Louis Vuitton California dream the inspiration was a beach sunset - which explained the nonlinear nature of the fragrance on my skin. From bright to dark over a couple of hours.

Because there are so much scents out there, I like to hear some notes just because I want a light, initial filter to peak my interest. I like it when I can look forward to putting my nose on something that I haven't before. If the note break-down makes something seem rather familiar, then I can just sit back, let other people enjoy it and tell me if I'm missing out. The combination of notes also gives me a flavor or vibe. So I do think it's important... but I don't place too much emphasis on it since we don't know if a note is supposed to give the feeling of some ingredient or if it is naturals and between synthetic and natural I'm sure that synthetic isn't bad or evil by default. I just like to hear the notes.
@leandronicolas884810 ай бұрын
I like his 'levels' of amusement when reading the notes/marketing brief, going from the little smirk all the way to the eye roll. I think the marketing write up mostly helps people that can't imagine how it'd smell, not everyone buying knows perfectly how Neroli, Clary Sage or Carnation smells like. Fragheads can probably picture pretty well how something smells just from the notes, brand/perfumer.

Great vid Aaron looking dapper today nice one! I always look at the notes as they usually give me an idea on whether it’s something I will like (if I’m blind buying) and I tend to stay away from scents that contain both vanilla and lavender, there’s something about that combo that smells terrible to me, almost like a fatty smell, I think I’m alone on that one though, so yes to answer your question I do check the notes out 👍
@jasonsimpson958710 ай бұрын
Excellent review. Since you asked, I do use the notes listed to assume some of the presumed identity of the fragrance. Imaginative cognation plays part in the rest of the decision. Paintings or some sort of self descriptive artwork would actually work much better than words there wouldn't they🤓

Designer marketing doesn't catch me. Consistent quality does, though. From the Pour Homme line, I've only worn Versace Pour Homme and I enjoyed it so I may purchase Oud Noir eventually. The notes do catch me. If I enjoy a certain percentage of a fragrance's notes already, it makes me more likely to purchase a fragrance to see how the notes I'm not sure of (bitter orange, patchouli) interact with the notes I like (frankincense, black pepper, cardamon, and oud). I'd probably layer this with your Carbon to increase its projection - perfect for the season. Very informative review, Aaron. Thank you.

Very informative and interesting, as usual. It can be found quite a bit cheaper by shopping around online (around £50 last time checked). I've had a sample in my collection a long time. It's different enough from TF OW that is it's own thing. It's worth having but the season for scents like this is beginning to pass. Going into Spring very soon and I have lots of great 'dark' or 'cool weather scents', already (albeit, you can wear what you want, when you want, if you like). That said, if this was to get discontinued before I own a bottle I will probably be kicking myself. I think it smells better than TF Oud Wood. It would be great 'dark' Oud fragrance to wear if you're not into the more complex Middle Eastern type ones or you don't want to be projecting too much of the Oud. You're such a good reviewer that I get kind of chuffed with myself when you like something I I like, as well.

I don't usually care all that much for marketing/descriptions I do care about the notes though, reading through fragrantica I can picture what it smells like (if my nose had a brain 🤣) and make my decision based off that. I do a lot of blind buying though, even if they aren't that good, it takes you on a journey. Depending on how good the materials are and how it's blended will tell how vivid and detailed the journey is, for some it's a boring journey. You can usually tell what sort of effort went into a fragrance by where it takes you in your head

@Asurez10 ай бұрын
To be completely honest, I don't think I have ever really imagined what a parfum would smell like, bought it and then got what I was thinking.. the notes kinda influence me in what I'm looking for when shopping online but usually I get samples, test them blind, wear them a few days and then go from there. Good example is probably the Gentle Fluidity Gold and SIlver from MFK. Same exact notes, two completely different fragrances. Comparisons to other fragrances work way better to get a feel for a scent.
@wojciechtomaszewski859410 ай бұрын

I do look at notes. Not that I know all of them. But it’s more knowing what I don’t like. For example, if I know there’s Oud, I immediately know it’s not for me. Hi Aaron, could you do a review of Acqua di Parma Oud EDP (from "Signatures of the Sun" collection - basically, it's the black bottle)? I found this hidden gem in Selfridges while hunting for my trusty "Colonia Intensa". Took a few ADP paper-samples (Quercia, Sandalo, etc) with me, and been sniffing them throughout the week. A week later only the "Oud" paper-sample is going strong, and it really grew on me, so I pulled the trigger and bought it. It's actually so much deeper and interesting and "classy" than TF Oud Wood that I'm now thinking of striking TF Oud Wood off my wishlist. There's no in-depth, decent, professional review of Acqua di Parma Oud on youtube. Cheers!

I don't know, tried it few times based on yt reviewes, but something is not working, for me smells as some kind of natural soap just a mediocre scent and of course it could be just my skin and the chemistry or just it is my nose that is not working and I am not able to catch all. I reckon that I will do some more test with my girlfriend as a 2nd nose, as already happened with another scents where she is saying that they smell great and I am not able to detect the greatness. Gucci Intense Oud instead was a blind buy for me, love from first spray and there is an extreme difference between both, such a projection and longevity with only 1-2 sprays. It will be nice if you are able to review Atkinsons male oud collection - Oud Save the King and the others.
