So nice to see head without cracks around spark plugs, on other hand so sad when I see engine block cooling pathways so rusted. I honestly do not get it why people use tap water? Water is great in thermal conductivity, but all benefits go away once when block starts to rust. It could be head gasket failed due to that reason anyway, since heat is easier to build in the block and harder to transfer on to water when block is rusted. And there you go. One thing that can save the day is using undercut cylinder head bolts. When things get hot, claim is, it helps to save the day since undercut bolts allow elongation just as needed to save the head gasket. It is nice story from ARP, hope it is true. Like the video, thank you for sharing! and hope owner shall clean that rust and stop with tap water usage :)

Did you check to see which headbolts were loose / had lost their clamping force. Realistically most of the time you can eliminate the leak just by retorquing the head. This applies to just about everything with an aluminium head.
@vanlivingandmagnetfishing5263 Жыл бұрын
The head gasket had failed tho hadn't it ? From what I presumed , I'm sure he said the gasket had failed cylinder 2 between waterway and cylinder causing the water to clean the outer edge of the bore , so re-torque or stretching the headbolts wouldn't have any effect, once a gasket fails specially between a water way and oil way the only way to eliminate the effects is to replace the gasket . I suppose your method would kind of work if the gasket had failed to seal between a water/oil way and the outer edge of the engine as to the only issue being a fluid leak and no compression issue .
@1magnit Жыл бұрын
@@vanlivingandmagnetfishing5263 You learn to do that with every head. Then you learn much more. Head gaskets never "just fail", they have warning signs first. The only exception would be one of those stupid tunes with pops and bangs. There's just no sense in it at all.

Great vid, Couple of questions, you know you have to fit the oil restrictor when fitting the VXR turbo to the Z20LET is this the case for Z20LEL/R? Also is the stock 2.25" exhaust fine for VXR stage 1 power 260 - 270BHP? I have a LEL I fitted to a Astra H van, It runs 80mm MAF, VXR Injectors, VXR ECU so should be close to the VXR 236bhp on stock turbo / intercooler. I have pre cat delete, stock centre cat, power flow centre section and it also had a power flow back box but was way too loud for a daily van so I fitted a stock Astra van back box still 2.25". My Plan is to fit a VXR turbo ( already have a junk VXR turbo so will source a core) and a cheap front mount intercooler in the hope to run a healthy 260/270bhp. do you see any issues with the above?
