That engine is a work of art. Le Dan and Alan Millyard ought to hear about each other. Both of them do amazing engineering and machining work. However, I’m curious about the access to the #1 and #2 spark plugs. #3 in on the right end and exposed, but I wasn’t able to see the other two. Maybe I just missed them, or maybe the cam cover needs to come off. I couldn’t tell. Also, as another person commented, with TRIPLE the power going through the clutch, it might not last long. Rear tire life might also be much shorter. I modded my bikes. The first, a 1970 Yamaha 350 R5, was now able to rev higher, and blew all the windings out of the alternator, and the clutch began to slip. Luckily for me, the next model, the RD350, had a higher-rpm rated alternator rotor and an extra clutch plate, so newer stock Yamaha parts fixed those issues. The next big mod was to fit an FZR1000 engine into my FZ750. Since they’re the same physical size, the swap was pretty straightforward, but the FZ750 used narrow 130/80-18 tires on a narrow 3.00 rear rim, so wheelspin became an issue, with rear tires lasting only 7,000 km/4300 miles. 160/60 tires made for odd handling at high speed, so I had to compromise with 140/70 tires. The point is that modding engines shows up weaknesses where there were none before.

No problem. Some bikes need to remove the exhaust to change the oil ! In Nissan's HR and MR engines, the plastic inlet manifold has to be removed in order to change the plugs or coil packs ! Trinidad & Tobago. West Indies.
@nomorokay10 ай бұрын
@@ramishrambarran3998 Yes, many modern cars have so little space under the hood that the top part of the intake manifold has to be removed to change the spark plugs or fuel injectors on the rear bank of the V-6 engines. However, the spark plugs on the latest cars are expected to last 160,000 km/100,000 miles, and the fuel injectors may last the life of the vehicle. Does this bike have that type of high energy ignition, or the older types of sub-20,000 volt system, where the spark plugs last only 1 year or less?

Oh for fucks sake, what did it go from, a 125cc to a 375cc? Pretty sure Yamaha had a ton of head room in the OG engine. It's not exactly like a race bike. It's a commuter. I don't know the guy but some geniuses do it just show it can be done. It's a work of art and that is all that matters before some Karen comes along with some negative shit just like always
@nomorokay10 ай бұрын
@@erivon2234 From a 125 to a 375 could mean going from 10 hp to 30 hp. That may seem insignificant to you, but bike motors and clutches aren’t over-engineered to take triple their original power. Anyway, it’s not whining to ask a relevant question, while still respecting the amazing skill of the guy. Anyone who has any experience with modded engines knows the issues that can crop up, and this is about as extreme a mod you can get.

Always massively impressive , but I’ve always the same question: how durable is this going to be? You always use the same gearbox, clutch and oil pump of the original engine, but with two, three or four times the original power output…. What breaks first?
@ilyes556011 ай бұрын
In my opinion I think it'll be fine, whats concerning is if it leaks oil or coolant to the inner combustion chamber
@Reman197511 ай бұрын
Most smaller capacity "Brand name" bikes are built to take the kind of abuse an inexperienced (Or mechanically unsympathetic) rider can dish out and still get out of warranty before anything major disintegrates, so there should be a reasonable amount of over engineering in the original design, but yeah, I'd say this thing isn't going to do high mileage without extra levels of preventive maintenance. My guess is that if treated with at least a little bit of respect, the gearbox should be OK, though it's unlikely to stay happy if subjected to drag race style full throttles clutch drops off the line. Many small bike oil pumps seem to have a reasonable reserve of flow rate, so until things like bearing clearances start opening up through wear, I'd be surprised if he gets a drop in oil pressure. The clutch will probably wear out quickly if it's not able to resist slipping, but stronger springs would help, and if you refit a used clutch it's often possible to squeeze an extra friction plate and disc in there to get slightly more surface area to help it deal with the extra torque. If I had to put money on what would fail first (Without any modified service schedule to prevent it), I'd say either the timing chain will stretch or the chain tensioners will come apart. That chains spinning a cam that must have over double the mass of the intended one, it's having to transmit about 3x the original torque to run the valve train, and it's being accelerated a lot quicker than it would have been when it was working on a single cylinder engine. So I'm thinking that if he didn't upgrade the cam chain or tensioners, they'd probably turn out to be the weak link here.
@paultinwell555711 ай бұрын
@@Reman1975 all valid points, and I’ll add that as the majority of bearings are roller or ball bearings, it’s not the pressure that matters, just the volume flow rate of the pump. It’ll probably be ok. However, the clutch will have a very hard time handling at least twice the intended torque, so I expect this will be the first point of weakness. If that can be fixed (noting that increased spring pressure will help, but as the clutch is really small diameter it’ll not help much), the gearbox is going to be next. Probably the shafts will bend enough to manifest rapid gear tooth wear, or cause jumping out of gear… leading to selector fork abuse. No amount of extra maintenance will fix any of that, although the problems can be avoided entirely by not using the full performance… defeating part of the reason of building the engine in the first place, eh? Camchain loads are dominated by valve opening force. Yes there are three times the number of valves, but are the loads sufficiently spaced to avoid these being additive? If so, it’s just the frequency of the loading that’s an issue, which could cause chain vibration (length and tensioner unchanged) or simply accelerated wear depending on how the loads are distributed across the chain links. As stated, the work is remarkable, but there are a lot of potential issues caused by the author’s approach.

Maybe it'll grenade. But until then, it looks and sounds, absolutely epic.
