The reason Judd Apatow started a radio show in high school was to meet comedians. In this episode of "Dinner with Don," Don Rickles tells Judd about the secret career dream he never achieved. They talk Jackie Gleason, Lenny Bruce, Totie Fields and that time Judd and his friends went to a Rickles and Sinatra show. "Dinner with Don" is a legacy series celebrating Don Rickles' life and career. It was produced by AARP Studios, Winbrook Entertainment and Stamper Lumber Company.

Just to be clear. If they have any reason they will turn on you in Hollywood. The town thrives on spitting out the old or ignoring them. The town even ignored Moe Howard and Larry of the Three Stooges. If Rickles had been a diva, he would not have been as loved right till the end. Don Rickles called Stern one day and Howard Stern snapped to. When Rickles visited him, Stern stood for the whole interview and later escorted Don onto the set of Letterman, sitting by his side. I've met a lot of people in the business just because of where I lived. Someone I knew since childhood was married to someone big in the business who comes off as really nice on camera; but, is a piece of shit. I will not mention their name as they are still alive. Nobody talks shit about Rickles and they better pray they never do because too many people love him that knew him. Rickles was sharper and funnier than anyone at his age except George Burns. Both worked right till then end and never lost it. Difference was, Rickles performed without a net.

Knowing Apatow's deep knowledge of comedians, he didn't include Pryor in that particular group of comedians, i.e. late '50s/early 60s. He would probably group Pryor with Carlin and stand ups that became big in the late 60s. I bet he did mention Bill Cosby but it got edited out.
