If you think about it, Aatrox is still the most innocent and empathetic of the three main Darkin. Whilst Rhaast relishes in the carnage, and Varus believes it to be righteous, Aatrox knows what he's doing is wrong. He knows that the violence and bloodshed he brings are painful and tragic for all involved and he loathes it, he loathes himself because of it. He clings so desperately to the idea of what he once was, that he believes his only escape is to find peace in death. And even then, he cannot find it for himself, only inflict it on others. Edit: The necroposting is strong with this one. Yet another edit: Jesus Christ people keep responding to this even a year later for some reason.

I personally liked the old wan much more, than this new one. I used to despise his lore rework when I first heard it. He seemed like an angry teenager hell bent on sounding like a tryhard. Now having an idea of the stories they rewrote for him and the miserable fate he ended up with, I now see the pain and sorrow that echoes thru each line, how tired yet determined he is to find rest. If anything else, I respect his commitment to the role he's been given, unjustly though it may have been. I just hope someone comes and gives him the freedom he long craves, that peace that has long far eluded him.

The way the lore is going, I hope he kills every targonian with the help of his fellow darkin, then assist in the killing of the watchers alongside belveth, lissandra and kaisa, then killing belveth then finally die to Atreus. I think it’s the most fitting thing he can do as they lost their sanity to losing to the void and was trapped into essentially hell by the targonians, and was slashed by the human willpower of Atreus. Obviously I don’t think riot will do this but I think it is the best thing that’ll happen. Also I don’t think he’d willingly fight alongside anyone other than his brethren but they would share a common enemy and they’d take their chance to eliminate those who they wish to.

Aatrox can only be free if the void consumes him or Aurelion Sol frees him from curse and clears his mind. And those 2 are impossible to happen. Atreus is a mere mortal with gods powers, he is not known by his combat prowess, his will is what makes him use more celestial power. Aatrox is a corrupted ascended god warrior. He was the champion of Shurima, unbeatable, he won every war except the last Darkin war, slain many other gods and horrors of the void. He killed Pantheon, a celestial god old as Aatrox who hunted remaining Darkins. And you think Atreus can match Aatrox? When he cut off Aatrox arm, Aatrox didnt know Atreus had the gods powers, he in suprise jumped and cut it off. Next time, even with gods powers, he doesnt have the necessary skill to defeat Aatrox. He couldnt defeat even Rhaast or Varus, he was always a loser with strong will, but there is no standing up once you get stabbed by a Darkin weapon.

From 4:10 to 4:20 I can only imagine some random person/soldier/warrior, either on a battlefield or at the end of a battle/war, that has suffered and wants to end it all, and he hears Aatrox whisper to him those lines, and at 4:20 he picks up the sword and Aatrox is unleashed as his final words towards his new vessel are "Destiny awaits!" and after that Aatrox makes himself known towards everyone else with the sound of his R and "I am Aatrox! I AM THE WORLD-ENDER!"

I think him talking to himself is actually a result of his internal conflict, where the tattered remnants of his past human life refer to the Darkin momentarily as a separate entity, and the Darkin proceeds to call him by the same name to remind him that they are now one and the same. I could be wrong though.

When you are given a task to beat a monster which cant be beaten by anyone else until you yourself become a meancing beast. You think you completed that task for your people but now you are a beast because you overcame what others weren't able to. So you just took its place in their eyes. So they just imprison you because they werent able to control that monster but you are bigger problem for them. But you still having some thoughts about your people so you submit to them imprisoning you.

I don't really know why either, but I think that's very motivating in some way. it's like that although a situation is almost hopeless you still keep going and play your part no matter what happens. It's all according to the motto "I show them.. I show them all. Even if it's the last thing I do" No matter if it hurts, no matter how hard it is, no matter if no one believes in it, no matter how long it takes. you bring it to an end.

The left ascendents that were alive, started to fight with each other, and since they were like "gods", they'd cause a huge mess, to the point where the aspects felt like stopping them, and the way to stop them, was to imprision them on their own weapons. Mista (the aspect of twilight in that time, currently is Zoe), gave the magic to do it, and Pantheon fooled Aatrox, and the humans could imprision him
