Perfectly according to the plan. Aavaros wanted to die in a supernova in way to kill another Archdragon. He prepared the way for his next return, with his enemies more and more weak. Claudia being free is his ace. Dying in this way, was the best way to ensure his triumph in the long term. The worst for him was to be maintained in chains alive. What a genius move. Humans, Elves and Dragons have no hope to defeat such a genius and cold thinker.

There has to be a season 8 tho. They still haven't answered the mystery of the cube. My guess is when aaravos returns. The dragang will search for the book the cube unlocks and the book will probably contain a spell on how to permanently kill aaravos. I think the spell will have something to do with the archdragon of stars shiruakh.

Aaravos Is a star so if a star dies it goes supernova. That makes sense for the title of the final episode.
