To me, Abaddon is the personification of the saying "You must be lucky enough to avoid the wolf every time, but the wolf only needs enough luck to find you once." If he ever wins completely, that's it, game over. The End Times on a galactic scale. So he kind of has to lose or be driven back every single time. Add to that the unwritten rule that "nothing ever changes", it really didn't do the poor guy any favors. I do like the fact that they are fleshing him out in the books now(which I really need to pick up), and retconning it so that his previous Black Crusades actually did something beyond get his butt kicked.

@@Griffon29 retconning? The lore of each Black Crusade having a goal which Abaddon achieved or simple 13 strategic strike in the long war dates back to the early 90s right mate. First in the 2nd edition Choas Codex then more details in the 2003 Eye of Terra Codex. The problem is a lot of people think its a retcon because they get all there lore from memes lol. With the Imperium in half they could give one side to Abaddon and Choas and there other to the Imperium without it being the Endtimes to 40k. It which just change the face of it.

@@absolute-focus Just checked the 2nd Edition and the Black Crusade section doesn't mention anything about Abaddon's plans. It doesn't even mention Abaddon, specifically. It just says a Black Crusade is led by a powerful Chaos Champion. And I know that over the years, the Blackstone Fortresses, getting the Iron Warriors to steal that gene-seed, he's done things here and there, but it wasn't until the Fall of Cadia that the devs said, "Oh, each Crusade was REALLY about destroying the Pylons to rip open the Eye of Terror."

@@Griffon29 2003 Eye of Terra Codex does into detail about the goal of each Black Crusade and what Abaddon was after. Each one leading upto the fall of Cadia and the Imperium in half and covered it with warp storms. Like i said there has been NO retcon on Abbadons and the Black Crusades lore. The fall of Cadia wasn't a retcon either it was a continuation of the lore.

I am in live with 40k lore, and am by this poi t very familiar with all the over arching history of events, but now moving a little deeper into backstories of individual characters and specific events, and this cleared up a lot for me, thanks. It is a lifetime's reading to get through the black library books. Utterly overwhelming. @ItalianSparticus, Macragges Honour and Eternal Crusader are both Gloriana's and bother in service to the Imperium as of current timeline. Also Imperial battleships are still over 8km long it's even explicitely written in more recent novels. The point where people bring up that number is from the BFG rulebook for the tabletop game but it's been changed and varied since. Also people like to bring up the Speranza being an Ark Mechanicus of monstrous size. You also forget to mention The Rock.

Personally, I can see how it would be embarrassing that it would take 13 crusades to conquer the empirium; but if you think about it, the emperium’s reach is vast. Even if you just went straight to Tera and ganked it, you have a whole star system of factions that resent you. You approach this kind of situation like you do in Mafia 3, target specific components of the empirium and eliminate them; break it down to the point where it can’t properly function.

His current plan is divide and conquer, the warp storms cut the imperium of too each other. Independent war bands, demon Primarchs hosts and demon assaults plus his force which seems to be looking for it next target. Seems pretty good considering the size and power of imperium. 1000 chapters, plus new marines which was estimated at 9 legion sized prime marines, countless paper guard regiments, mechanicus forces, the inquisition (grey knights and death watch) sisters of battle and silence, custodians going out to fight, you’ve got to consider now the imperium is divided they can’t band together in a massive task force as they are fighting on too many fronts.

i still think abaddon is a failure you can have this grand plan and crush the iron hands, take the blackstone fortresses. but he could have destroyed medusa and the gothic sector while he was at it. to say "he acomplished this menial task while still getting pushed back" is kind of pathetic if he had destroyed medusa and wiped out the iron hands, and we found out it was only a test to find out how astartes homeworlds fight. now that would have been intimidating.

You only have to look at what he has done to the Imperium to see what his thinking/planning gets him. To beat a superia force like the Imperium with what Abaddon has takes a strategic master of a master mind. Not only has he split the Imperium in half and covered it with warp storms but hes made it were Chaos is no longer on the back foot.

This was fantastic! I’m very new to this 40k. Had to endure the first 3 Horus Heresy books with the worst writers I can think of. But I’m on the 4th book and seems like they have an author with some talent. Abaddon is such interesting. Not sure if I’m going to stick with 56 books to finish the Heresy, but Abaddon, and Lucious(?) are my favorite characters.

Well terminus est is a despoiler-class, which were wide used by a lot of other legions. Vengeful Spirit is a Gloriana-class.. Guilliman's ship being the largest of its class.. But at the time I'm talking about, his ship was "decommissioned." all the primarchs had Gloriana-class I THINK. I can't remember fully. I'll look into it brother :)

TBH they just need it to make physical sense, make the "knot" shorter and have it be more of an actual head of hair instead of an ostrich neck. Honestly I want him to have a Helmet that's reminiscent of Archaon and give THAT the topknot (kinda White Scars/Sons of Horus/Custodes style), which would be perfect for me.

This video confused me! Haha. Mainly about Horus. I thought that the Emporer of Mankind destroyed Horus's mind, body, and soul? How is his body in the eye of terror and Abaddon able to kill him all over again? I must of missed lots of information on this!

It's a clone! There's a lot of annoying little loopholes like that in the lore. Horus can't be resurrected or brought back in any way, because the Emperor DID indeed shred his soul and mind, but his body was brought back by the Black Legion, and then the other legions fought over it for a bit. It's a recent addition to the lore actually with Aaron Dembski-Bowden's Black Legion series!
