Some info, outside of HH fluff seems to suggest a different chap was first Chapter Master, Belarius... though more recent stuff now suggests he was just an ‘early’ Chapter Master rather than first, now that Raldoron is an established fluff figure!

One of the details most accounts leave out about Sanguinius, during the siege of terra. Sanguinius stayed busy the whole siege. When not fighting. Sanguinious was giving inspiring speeches, rallying forces and visiting the wounded and the dying. He always fought where the fighting was most intense. Every moment he dedicated to being a beacon and an icon of and for humanity. The black rage isn't just about being angry at Horus. It's a purity of hatred for everything that stands against, and opposes; the nobility of humanity. A few of the primarchs were effected by chaos when they were flung through the warp. It's possible that Sanguinius develop his wings do to the raw power from the warp. But being pure of heart developed pure white wings as a reflection of his noble soul.

One thing that I think should be clarified, and something that I often see explained incorrectly, is that Sanguinius was going to beat Ka'Bandah the first time. He had the daemon on the ground and was about to strike the final blow, but just before it fell, Ka'Bandah revealed to him Horus' treachery, and the shock of it opened him up to the attack that broke his legs.

Sang's personality is summed up in the moment when he meets his legion. How he bowed down to his sons, and offered himself to them as he did the emperor. At this point the BA were hated by most other legions, being viewed as bloodthirsty killers (duh), and nothing else. This act humanizes the marines and immediately formed that massive bond you've touched upon. Great video man!

There's more to Ollanius Pius than just being a random Guardsman. It also serves as the point at which the Emperor realizes that Horus is gone beyond rescue. The Emperor sees Ollanius Pius, a mere mortal, a simple human with nothing special to him. The Emperor sees a man that witnessed Him, a *living god* in his eyes, fall in battle, yet this man, this *hero*, chooses to stand defiant against another god made flesh. With nothing in his hands but a humble rifle, and have the sheer courage and determination to *spit this facts in the face*. Ollanius is in many ways the very image of what the Emperor wishes Mankind to become: Strong, determined, and defiant against any notion of gods, any "higher" beings. And then Horus comes and literally obliterates him, as this man is just another lowly human soldier: Cheap, expendable, and overall worthless compared to his own greatness. This was the point that made the Emperor see the sheer scope of Horus' betrayal. He didn't just turn his back to him, but to all of Mankind. He didn't want Humanity Ascendant, but an Imperium ruled by the likes of himself. See, it wouldn't make sense if it had been a Space Marine or a Custodes to make this sacrifice, they are expected to do that since they are created to be warriors. But a normal man? A mere soldier not giving a damn about these odds? That is an entirely different topic.

A mere human, hopelessly standing defiant to the power of a God. His death perfectly encapsulates how far Horus has fallen, as well as the spirit of the Imperial Guard itself.

Just a theory but maybe Sanguinius's purpose was to be a successor to the Emperor, since Emps had a plan for almost everything it makes sense he would have a fallback plan for if Chaos succeeded in taking him out, Sangs skill set seems to be the most well rounded of the primarchs and his charisma is even better than most others. As my final piece of evidence the Emperor choose an Eagle as the Imperiums symbol, and then one of his sons is born with wings.. the one most well suited to take the mantle of Emperor.. who's very presence and symbolism would inspire a desperate Imperium that just lost its Emperor.. probably not a coincidence

I find it funny how that when I got into W40K I started with Blood Angels (probably a little because of the 2nd Edition Starter Cover which featured Blood Angels & Orks), and when I later (around 5 years) after having moved home to my mother and little brother, I got him into Warhammer, and he choose Chaos Marines. Apparently he found Horus very cool. Me being a fan of Blood Angels and Sanguinius. My brother a fan of Chaos and Horus.

Another great video! Add the Siege of Terra to the list. At the 23 minute mark you talk about Sanguinius knowing he is going to die, you say that he has the same gift as the Emperor. Instead of their shared gift being precognition is it possible it is the gift of being a Perpetual? He knows he will be struck down only to rise again in the future? My theory is that Sanguinious was being groomed to replace the Emperor as the figurehead of the empire when the crusade was complete & the webway mastered. It's hinted that the Emperor was planning to withdraw into the background when his work was done as him remaining would be detrimental to his plans in the long term. All the primarchs were designed with roles beyond being generals eg: Corax was to watch for criminality & Curze was to punish it, Sanguinious role i believe was to be the Emperor's regent.

Hey guys ! This message is to ALL who read this and the creator of this video. Warhammer has gotten me threw some rough times in my life. I live the fact that there is a loose community and inside that there are “factions”. I’ve been down this rabbit hole for about 2 years ( the lore/ books ( audio books ) right now in bed ridden with spinal issues - it offers an amazing escape - it’s so big and well developed so much that you can Jump around to new aliens and worlds as you choose. I started with space marines , then the eldar , then dark eldar , and when I heard the stories of the emperor. Then the amazing FAN MADE videos !

The Emperor was betrayed by his Megalomania (Lorgar); his progress undone by his Naivety and Innocence (Magnus), ultimately ruined and nearly destroyed by the Hubris that he held so dear to himself (Horus). Nonetheless, he was rescued at last by his Conscience (Dorn) and redeemed somewhat by his devotion to the Greater Good (Guilliman), even when said devotion was what blinded him in the first place to his inner turmoil that he despised so, so greatly and whose existence he never acknowledged or embraced (Angron), which only bolstered his Hubris (Horus). His faith in humanity as an unquestioning extension of his will was so misplaced (Russ) that it was too distant to have any semblance of redemption for any and all. Ultimately, when said hubris killed his Ideals (Sanguinius), he knew that humanity's dream was dead.

Theres an old Blood Angels codex that has a small fluff bit written about the black rage. I cant find which book it's in, but effectively it's a recording of the last moments of a death company marine right before a chaplain grants the emperors mercy. The marine quotes Sanguinius as he walks through the Vengeful Spirit, his wings wrapping around him in disgust at the corruption of the ship. He fights and kills various enemies before having this moment of pseudo-clarity, as Sanguinius confronts Horus - he screams a challenge and with a For the Emperor! The marine devolves into body-destroying spasms. It's easily one of the best bits of lore I've ever read and I'll be damned if I cant find it again.

Sanguinius was also the only primarch Konrad saw as worthy to kill him. Konrad begs Sanguinius to kill him when he understands that there is no way back from the monster he was becoming.

Great vid as usual. Definitely one of the more interesting Primarchs. Should be noted that Chaos desperately wanted Sanguinius over and above Horus. He has gotten 2 definitive offers (so far) from the current black library lore. One on Signus Prime from Khorne/Slaanesh and the other at Davin from all 4 Gods in the book Ruinstorm. Chaos is tired of rejection at this point.
