One of the most important things I ever learned about how to approach this(or any other styles) is pocket, pocket pocket!!!. “Pocket” as it pertains to rhythm, but, as/or More importantly, Michael, I noticed you always play with a softer touch and never over-power yourself on the multi-tracks. This is what I now refer to as the “dynamic pocket”. For me and for many percussionist this is/was a huge stumbling block. Basically, I found that if I dialed back my dynamics(stick and hand heights) the feel and quality of sound grew exponentially. Thanks again ***P.S. watch how Changuito plays Tumbadoras and you will see that he NEVER over powers and it’s smooth as anything

@zarapico I've learned these rhythms in Cuba and also when my Cuban teacher came to Holland. Great rhythms in Cuba! I don't have the sheet music ....yet, but perhaps I'll write the rhythms down one day.

@mdm2230 I see, I am from Cuba but I didn't learn about percussion there, I left 17 years ago. I have some rhythms notated if you are ever interested, like Palo, Yuka, Abakua, Iyesa, Arara, Conga, Bembe, etc. As a matter of fact, while I watched your videos I would look at my sheet music and compare, some minor differences here and there in performance styles and such but your rhythms are dead on, you have great memory to remember all of those.

@@jasonethridge4506 Hey Jason, of course you can watch my videos or from an other teacher, but for the beginning I would advice you to find a teacher in your neighbourhood. Because the videos can't correct you when do something wrong and you a good technic. I wish you good luck!

Quinto and Tres Golpi parts are different, but the Salidor pattern is the same for both Matanzas and Habana styles. And no Guataca or Shekere in Habana style.

@zarapico I'm allways interested in notated rhythms! Perhaps you can scan a rhythm and send it to me? There are a lot of ways that people write rhythms of percussion down and I am allways curious. Because I have also my own way of writing it down.When I studied in Cuba, I recorded a lot of the lessons and most of the rhythms are still in my head....
