I picked up this king midget micro car that was all torn apart and in boxes, on the first video we set all the parts on the body to see what we did and did not have. now it on to the Wisconsin single-cylinder engine that came with it.

I have a friend that is a little person (midget) that would love that little buggie. Right now he is on facebook and has wished his whole life for a harley davidson motorcycle his size. Everyone is rooting for him and are casting votes for his wish to come true. We are all hoping that someday it will happen for him. He is such a great guy and deserves to experience the freedome of cruising down the road on a Hog. or a little piggie? He would be thrilled. I remember back in the 1980"s when we were all young and somebody rigged a little toyota so he could drive. I can still remember how happy that made him. But that is cool to see there are actual street legal vehicles for someone his size. He's a guy with a heart larger than life.

No charging system on the engine, the small pulley on the end runs a generator. The centrifugal clutches ran the two speeds one engaged the low speed, as the rpms increase the high speed clutch took over. The low speed driven pulley on the trans would "ratchet" like a bike sprocket when high speed was engaged. I got a king midget for my 8th birthday back in the 70's I used it to haul hay and feed to our cattle on 160 acres we leased spent the summers on the land feeding, watering, and shootin' squirrels. Drove the wheels off that car, I lost the oil pump and seized the motor and put it in the barn in about 1980. It's still there, I'm 54 now and want to get it running again, I retired this year and that's my priority project. CHEERS!

The King Midget was first sold by Midget Motors as a kit car before they offered pre-essembled models as an option then later only sold prebuilt models. They were in production as kits or fully assembled from '48 to '70. Midget Motors faced bankruptcy in 1969 after which another company, Barthman Corporation, bought up the remains of Midget Motors. Unfortunately a fire in a new plant built for building King Midget cars, along with increased cost due to knew safety and emmisions standards, made restarting production too costly for them and the were forced to abandon any attempt to restart production of the cars in 1970.

More like 20% car, 40% rust, 15% missing, and the rest is hopes and dreams. At least Mustie set himself an attainable goal "let's get it moving". Most people would buy this, get excited, get disappointed, get really disappointed, thrown in the trash or right back into the boxes. Did some digging on this, interim, and there's a lot of wrong with this one, unfortunately. Altered parts, missing components. He'll cobble them together, but it's gonna be a struggle. I'm willing to bet that there's another box he missed, or they missed when the swap occured. Because looking at the type of containers he got, and how things were put together, all that's missing, geni, sprockets, shtuff, that's fits perfectly into another box. The doors were clearly rotten. Here's why, someone modified the rear "cover", which is an anti-rust mod they do to keep water which would otherwise freely get into the "engine compartment". Don't get me wrong, equally into this build, but i doubt it's gonna be a restoration, more like a Mustiefication. :)

I’ve seen a King Midget with a motorcycle engine and transmission. While getting it back to original is desirable, I really don’t think there is a wrong way to do it. I can see one of these with nicely running Honda 750 engine and some better tires and wheels. Not that you’d want to run it at high speeds, but it is a nice upgrade from the double clutch automatic transmission and Wisconsin 9 HP engine. I watched an old video of the “Price is right” with Bill Cullen as the host. They had a King Midget up for bid. The price was around $900.00, the hostess couldn’t get it started. Mustie1, you always have an educational and interesting video. A lot of folks appreciate what you provide, me included. 👍👍👍

I'm 62, and I remember seeing these things advertised in old issues of Desert Magazine [from the 50's] when I was a kid. They were popular in that era when people were just learning that you didn't have to stay in a campground to go camping, and that most of the West was governmet land, where you could camp for free. Motorhomes had just been invented, and these little jeep-like vehicles made perfect tow vehicles. They were great for low-performance noodling around in the desert!

Now that's a flame thrower! There's got to be more for the exhaust system on this. Didn't hear the chainsaw in the background... loved the Red Green show! Remember, if she doesn't find you handsome, she should find you handy 😉

Some older guys out the street had one of these when I was a kid, late 60's early 70's. The only thing I remember about it was that it sounded like a lawn mower.

I went to a military school, high school and junior college, one of the cadets had a King Midget, he was in high school and not allowed to have a car, so he kept it off campus in town. I saw him driving it a couple of times but never saw it close up. Funky little car with a air cooled one lung engine, like a big lawn mower engine.

My Dad had one of these old Wisconsin engines he rescued from the trash... it had the SAME stuck valve... and he did the same lube and tap(hammer) trick. It went back to sticking soon after. I think pulling it would be the best option, although more difficult.

It’s so satisfying to work with a machine you could take apart and put back together not like the junk nowadays that doesn’t come apart the metal is such low grade junk it cannot be taken apart and put back together🪄✨🤪👍🏻.
