Well today started off a little different than I expected. I woke up and checked out Market Place first this at 6:45 am. Well the rest of the story is pretty self explanatory.... See Chevelle, message on Chevelle, pay for Chevelle, take Chevelle home.
Happy happy guy. It's rough but should be a pretty awesome car.

My dad had a 70 LS5 454 SS 4-speed in the early 70's. He traded it for a 4 cylinder Monza during a "fuel crisis". The lesson I learned is not to do what the crowd is doing or you might lose your big block muscle car due to politics.

Dan, Daniel my brother! Chevelle!! Now you're talking! My very first car was a 1968 Chevelle, bought it in 1977 for $800. No, it wasn't a SS.. basic Malibu with a 307. So, let's get crackin'! This is what a speed shop is all about! Congrats on the buy! Thank you Ms. Dani 😊 Signed - Your friend, the Cancer guy! (4 radiation treatments left! I'm kickin' it!)

My first car I bought in HS was a 68 Chevelle SS convertible , 396/375hp . I had a job and talked my parents in to loaning me the asking price of $3300. They should have never allowed a 17 year old to be the guardian of that much hp 😅

Love your show, love you both, always makes our day! This brings back such good memories! Ok, so here's a story... Mid 80s bought a 1970 2 door Malibu hardtop, gold on gold,, 307, 2spd auto, great interior, totally stock, no rust, steelies with stock caps, fading paint....ran ok. Drove it for a while...saved up some money, then my motorhead buddies helped me to transform it...sort of. Stayed with the wheels ( but put on high speed tires)and paint, but totally redid the suspension (bushings, ball joints, springs, shocks, massive sway bars, et al), put in a pro built hi-po TH400. The coup de gras (sp?) was a brand new built for me Chevy small block 383 Late Model stock car engine built by a famous Long Island speed shop. The builder told me 450hp and it will run at 9 grand all day. And dang if it didn't! Total sleeper look and ran oh so good! Had it for 10 or 12 years before I sold it to help finance a house. Got caught 3 times at over 130 mph, but never got a ticket!!! Go figure!

I have a 70 Chevelle and it has been my dream car since I was a little. I put a few thousand miles on every year. Looking forward to this build. That car is screaming for a big block. I was talking with the rep from Tremec and they designed the TKX around the 70 Chevelle so you don't need to cut the floor. Stiffen the frame drop a 12 bolt with a 3.73 gear and that thing would be cherry. I also highly recommend putting a Vintage Air system in it and it will be ready for power tour! I put one in mine 2 years ago and it isn't that bad of a job to do.

I had 3 57 Chevies, 210 and Bel Air, that I engine swapped in 1972. Then a 1960 Impala convertible with floor shifter and a 348. Gas station attendant left the radiator cap off the last 57 and the engine seized 100 miles from home. After hitch hiking back, I found a 68 SS396 that needed an engine, for $400, and got a junkyard 396 for another $400. Over 50 years later, I still have it. Plus there's a 71 in the driveway now as well. Both are running.

Sweet. Can't wait to see how it progresses. I've had 69, 70, 71 & currently a 72 Chevelle. My 70 I paid $250 for and it ran/drove. Of course this was 30 years ago but even still at that time it was a steal. 350/350 2 Dr and it came with extra parts.

Thank goodness it's a car you have had experience driving before, my it was a shame when you found you had personal oversize issues with the dream hot rod 67 satin black Camaro. You say it takes a year to make a satin black with white stripes hot rod 70 Chevelle with a 71 rear bumper the way you want but watching you clean and asses with so much enthusiasm I'll bet you're burning tires before the summer ends. Admit it Dan you're smitten, calling this abandoned project mint is more a testament to your skills rather than the car's condition. I can dig the headspace as you calculate car parts and work needed while you sift this build through into available time but excitement seemingly speeds up the process almost exponentially.

You have a hot traditional smallblock and LS in the fleet; this one cries out for a mild 454/4-speed/3:31 gear (so you can drive it wherever you want). The BB may no longer be the cheap way to make max power, but the sound and torque suit the car IMO.

I use to have a 70 chevy chevelle 300 sedan with a 307 2 bbl I bought it off a little old lady that bought it new in 1970 and used it for groceries and church and parked in the garage when not in use i was green on green and in mint Condition for being a 1970 car from Ontario. I got it for cheap I paid thousand bucks for it back in the late 90's. Most of the belts and hoses was all GM anyway drove it around for a year and ended up selling it but he car was the cleanest original chevelle I have ever seen with no rust at all and the paint shined like new after I cleaned it up and buffed it and I wish I would of kept it.

Rock on brother! I bought a 1970 Chevelle SS that was blue with white stripes in 78 also for 800 bucks. the previous owner had taken out the 396 and the Muncie and replaced it with a 300 horse 350 and a Saginaw 3 speed. within in 2 weeks it had a Muncie Rock Crusher, Spider intake, a cam and a Holly 750 double Pumper. Drove the wheels are for 3 years. until a drunk hit it parked on the street at 75 in a 25 mile an hour Zone. Mourn than that car to this very day. Can't wait to see it come together. But please reconsider the back bumper, those 70 square tal lights are iconic.

I mcloving the new 70 Chevelle. That car looks like a Mailbu and not a 300. Look at the vin or trim tag it should be 13637 for a Malibu. 135 or possibly 13437 for a chevelle 300 Model. The color looks like Desert Sand it's a fairly rare color on 70 Chevelles. I assume that car was built in Canada so the cowl tag will show options. Although it could be a American built Chevelle shipped to Canada. I would leave the 70 bumper but I've heard alot of people say they like the 71 72 better. Cool video Man

I'm a big chevelle guy so I'm super excited about this. My 70 Chevelle is at the bodyshop for paint right now. Mine started life as a 300 as well but I can tell you that based on the trim and the interior that is likely a Malibu. Trim on fenders and doors was a malibu option. 300's didn't have the chevy badge on the grille. Piping on the door panels was malibu as well. Unless a lot of parts were swapped at one point that was a malibu. 300 deluxe was actually pretty rare in 1970 so a lot of people weren't aware it existed. 300 deluxe had vinyl floors instead of carpet as well. Great car regardless and you got it at a great price considering what is there.

Also 300 deluxe had the same door panels as the heavy chevy. No piping and a woodgrain insert along the top.

Also the malibu trim on the doors and fenders have value if you decide not to keep it. No one reproduces it so if a guy wants it to restore a malibu instead of SS cloning it they will pay up.

The wheels you were talking about at the 17 minute mark are the "Heavy Chevy" spoke wheels also found on 80 and 81 z-28s....

I don’t have those type of wheels but if the center caps are metal, you can remove the tire and heat the wheel and cap, that will soften the epoxy enough to get them off. I had access to powder coating ovens at the time. I did it on a set of American racing rims someone epoxied some caps that had…off road use only cast in to the backs of them. You never know what some people will do or what you will run in to on an old car. I bought an old Skylark for parts one time. Thought I would snag the windshield for a spare. Someone had epoxied it in and it took days to get it out. Totally was not worth the effort and I would never do it again.

70 Chevelle, great project car and the price was right and it’s in good hands. I like the 71 Chevelle rear bumper idea.

As a GM guy that has owned over 60 vehicles since the early 80s, I dislike every car on your channel but I love that you really enjoy them and save all them from becoming scrap and other car guys that share your tast in cars gets a chance to start with a solid foundation. Keep doin what you do... Screw Blew Chu.

Today I did not buy a 1990 Eagle Talon TSI AWD. But I really wanted to. Good thing you filled the car buying void.
