Day 2 on our new "dream car" 1970 Chevelle. I knew this car was a little rough around the edges but after I started scratching the surface..... wow it's bad. The list of parts we're going to need for this car is as long as my arm.
This should be a fun project but it's going to take a pile of man hours.

The Monte Carlo shared a lot of parts with the Chevelle so keep your eye out for any of them being parted out in your area. You also have extra Camaro parts for trading stock! Personally I’m not a fan of hot rod satin black because it’s on everything and Chevy had some beautiful colors for the 70 model year.

The rear bumper, as well as the grille, are 1 year only. I, personally, would not change it to 71/72. It's a hallmark. Although it's not an SS, the round gauges, like in the same era Monte Carlo, are equally desirable. IMHO

Since both the rear bumper and grille are destroyed, I don't see what difference it makes as far as what you replace them with. Make it look the way you want it to. Those are bolt on parts, and the next owner can change them if they want. A cowl hood is definitely a necessity on any Chevelle, Camaro, or Nova, unless you are going with some type of custom hood scoop/air cleaner.

Check out Riverside Gold Metallic, it came on the 1969 Corvette. I painted a late 80's Suburban for a guy that wanted to revamp it little, he mainly use it to put his boat to the lake and said his wife wouldn't ride in it because it was raggedy. It turned out really nice new trim all the bells and whistles to make it look nice. I rear Differential looks like a 10.5 it may be a Buick, Pontiac or Olds. frame you have.

Certain years of certain cars are worth rebuilding in almost any condition, Chevelles, Chargers, etc and this one doesn't even seem that bad. Its not going to be numbers matching so might as well go for the big block manual with a 12 bolt posi. A 396 would go so well with this thing.

The 1966 Impala came out with a Gold color on it. My younger cousin bought a Impala off an elderly women. It was stock never been wrecked or repainted clean clean until my younger cousin got a hold of it. He put chrome wheels and small tire's. He tried to make a low rider out of it. It did look pretty nice for a quick minute. He should have just left it alone, being a young teenager he wreck it totly destroyed the 1966 Impala. The 327 / 283 was still good in it don't know what ever happen to it. Wrecking yard might have ended up with it. It was a Stock Gold color that look pretty nice it had a light metallic in the paint.

YearOne has the horseshoe shifter for $149 US. Not a bad price at all. They also have the 70 Chevelle TH350 Console kit for $438 US. Pricey for both but if you're going with an auto then IMO, the horseshoe shifter is a must. Also, bench seats didn't mean base model. There are several 70 LS6 Chevelles with bench seats and 4 speeds because they were lighter than buckets.

This car is begging for a big block and a 4 speed. Bucket seats, an 8" deep dish steering wheel, a white shifter ball, and G-60"s all around on either aluminum slots, or gray center Torq Thrusts. A cowl induction hood, traction bars, disc brakes, jacked up shackles and air shocks. Needs to be loud, Cherry Bomb or Thrush mufflers and a real lumpy cam. Since its gonna be all new sheet metal, you oughtta paint this one nice. Like u said, this could easily be a $30k car if you do it up right. I know you'll do it justice, Dan. I had a 68 and a 69 Chevelle years ago when they were cheap. They are timeless, cool cars.

That's a really cool builder Chevelle. I was waiting for you to read the cowl tag as I was assuming it was a Canada built car. M38 is for turbo 350 Trans they actually offered a powerglide in 70 and a 3 speed manual on the column. Paint code 63 is Desert sand and a really nice color and very rare. I'd say 350hp oval port big block and make it a ss. 70 is my favorite year chevelle as so many others in the world. Keep the videos flying in.

Chevelles are great cars. Glad to see you building it. I thought I would share a little known secret with you for finding a rear axle. As you are probably aware a Chevelle 12 bolt is really expensive. The next best thing is a 71'/72' Buick or Oldsmoble 8.5" ten bolt. They only came in those two years and only in Buicks and Oldsmobiles. They bolt right into any A body from 67' to 72'. They use a GM corporate 8.5 centre section so all gears and differentials from the 8.5 and 8.6 axles all the way into the 2000s. Those parts are common and cheap. They are also tough. Just as tough as a 12 bolt. Standard axles on the Buick and Olds 8.5s are 28 spline like the Chevy but they are retained by a bearing at the axle housing end not like a Chevy C clip. You can also use the later 8.5 and 8.6 differentials with 30 splines and use aftermarket 30 spline axles for a really beefy axle able to deal with 600hp. The best part is they are cheap. I picked one up recently for $100 Cdn. Please don't paint the car the horrible stock colour. Same for interior. Go with black interior and paint the exterior something cool. I think for a low budget start you should do Satin black like the other Camaro with contrasting gloss white SS stripes. Do a full nice colour paint job later. Big block would be cool. 383 or 400 small block with the TH350 you have would be fine as well.

that Chevelle looks like it has some of the same cancer my first dirt car had (1970 Chevelle also). I cut the quarters off about half way up the back tire on both sides, opened the trunk stomped the trunk floor once and it caved in on top of the gas tank. I had purist upset that I made a dirt car out of a Chevelle, but it was roached pretty hard from the back window leaking. Back in the day, guys were ditching the factory 4 link suspension and replacing it with the truck arms from a 60s-70 C10 with a panhard bar.

Good morning from Cape Cod ☀️ it looks like you're ordering the entire car Dan 😂 you've already done more to the 67 Camaro so don't stress putting money into your favorite car. I'm looking forward to seeing this build 👍✌️🇺🇲

Hi Dani .. the Turquoise Nomad.. needs the original large Bel-Air hubcaps that came on it - they are beautiful and would complete the original look .. also paint the rims the same Regal turquoise metallic.. you have to have original rims so the hubcaps will fit right .. Take care .. enjoy your segments ..

Save the trim on top of the fenders/doors/ quarter panels to the quarter windows. Nice Malibu trim.

I don't care what anyone says, it's not a muscle car with a 307. Chevelles need big blocks in them.

Since your your changing the quarters and trunk pan, you just need to purchase the trunk drop offs for each side. I bought mine from OPGI and they fit without to much work. I'm rebuilding my 71 Chevelle.
