Hey house lovers and explorers! These two homes are both fantastic period character homes with the first one built in the mid 50`s nearing the end of the art deco revival period and was blessed with an absolute amazing art deco bathroom that is still totally original and immaculate.
Also many other original features along with a curious interrogation room! :-)
The second home is from the initial art deco period in Australia which was the 30`s and this one was a late 30`s build early 40`s at absolute latest and again has an amazing bathroom and other old features but also has had some remodeling and an extensive 70`s extravaganza added at the real of the home! :-) Unfortunately these two like many many others I have shown have fallen victim to development.......Hope you guys enjoy the tours. Cheers :-)

Hi Paul I fear for Adelaide it appears they are doing what Sydney did in the 1970's removing all the period home in the name of progress. In Sydney now it is the period homes which attract a premium price when sold. I live in a 1994 home it's nice but has no character. I own, and I am restoring an Art Deco home. This one is being taken back to original (within reason). Thank you for showing us these homes. Sad the buyers are not restorers instead of a developer. Developers generally care little of the history and the process of restoration and preservation are never high on the list. Don't lose your stylish and wonderful building history Adelaide. if you love Art Deco check out the history of the Burnham Beeches home in Melbourne, Dandenongs. It has an amazing history and has recently been spared from the wrecking ball - a big win - also check out the Street Artist Rone exhibition at this home.

The first home, with the lime stone facade seemed to be in reasonable condition, with the original Art Deco bathroom, pine flooring, high ceilings and decorative ceiling roses. The second late 1930s Art Deco home with the rendered brick facade, with the late 1970s addition at the back of the property, within a prime location, seemed to have seen better days. It is a pity that two solid brick homes are being demolished. Thanks Paul for another interesting explore.

Hey Julz! Due to our research on those other homes that were late 30`s and early 40`s I was able to confidently assess this one pretty quick as sometime the art deco ones with the curved entrance can be from the 50`s also when Waterfall style came in with the art deco revival. Thank you, thank you.. for mentioning that Art Deco made a big comeback in the late 40's/ early 50's. I guess they wanted some luxury after the war years. But, I was getting confused when you said a 50's house and then to see Art deco in there. Now I understand. But that era AD, for me, can never be as good as the 20's/ early 30's. Had the white pedestal sink growing up with the green tile. Also had the red countertops with the metal trim and the same hardware with the white cabinets. The floor was red tile. We had the red chrome craft table with the red chairs. The room with the odd window looked like it could have been a dining room. Maybe they closed it off from the living area and put the stupid window in. The green pedestals are my favorite. They always look like jade. Nothing they put in the place will last as long as the homes did.

The first house was very much loved, so immaculate and well cared for. You would have to have tied me up and dragged me out screaming all the way. Second one must have been a beauty at one time to. Just to build unimpressive junk apt. they can call them condo if they want but they are ugly

These were once beautiful homes with families in them. First house was really nice and still in good condition. Very sad they are getting destroyed, doesn't make sense.

Our house was very similar to the first one when we moved in, down to the same pattern and handles on the doors and our bathroom was almost the same only pink not yellow bath and basin. Our house was built in 1963 and when we moved in in 2000 it was like walking into a timewarp!

Had to wait all day to enjoy this one but well worth it. How immaculate was that first bathroom ( beautiful) or the whole home actually. Definitely correct on the 70s remodeling on the second one . Glad we got to see it before they disappeared. Much appreciated. Keep up the great work.👏👏👏

1st house @ 3:59 is a pocket cut for termite fumigation in the 6 inch southern { known as birdseye } queensland floorboards , a warning to homebuyers , if you see that pocket cut walk away , its a time bomb , their is probably a queen under the house or nearby ! this house is a prime example of a superb italian structure of its day , perfect tiling & terrazzo ! all layed in solid mortar ! 2nd house re plastic tiles , is a perfect example in the decline of our standards after selleys invaded us in the late 60s ,

In that first house, the front rooms may have been set up as a home-studio for music or video, hence the interior window between them. While you didn't zoom in on it, there appeared what looks like a Cable Conduit down in one corner of the shared wall which would be to connect the equipment in one room to a mixer in the other, perhaps!

That first house wow was beautiful, as for the new build next door no style whatsoever. What ever the place was sold for the company that bought it will make double + on it easy, truly criminal what is happening to your heritage.
