Hey house lovers and explorers! This explores is one of many homes that fell victim to the Portrush and Magill road intersection upgrade plans. A happy Italian family were forced to sell to the Government via compulsory acquisition and had to pack up and move out late last year to start again elsewhere. As you will see this home could easily be considered perfect and it was kept in immaculate condition with enough room for a huge family to live in comfortably. They did leave some pretty nice things behind along with a wine collection! :-)
Over the next month or two I will upload the other homes and buildings I was also able to film before they were demolished.
Hope you enjoy the tour guys! :-)

If that were my home, the doors, stained glass windows and other features would have gone with me. I wonder if all that wine was still there, or if it gets salvaged? Shameful, not an equal trade, a beautiful, well built, no cracks home traded for pavement. I am sorry for the owners that lost their beautiful homes.

I am heartbroken about this one. if that was my home, I would have been inconsolable to have to give it up. it has been so well looked after and obviously loved. A beautiful style of home, similar to my grandparents home in Melbourne, built around 1920 and owned by them until they died in the 50's. It is long gone now too but I think it's criminal and such a loss of history. The quality of the fittings etc. I truly hope that at least they have been salvaged to use elsewhere.

I regularly drive from the Barossa to the Fleurieu....the destruction of homes along those 'upgrades' has been horrific. Sidenote...the Kaiserstuhl winery was 'retired' by Fosters and eventually all the property has become defunct under Treasury .( they moved all operations to the Wolf Blass factory out near Stockwell.) Charmaine Sparking from Rovalley was named after Charmaine Liebig , daughter of one of the Liebig brothers who owned Rovalley. I went to school with their children in the 60/70's.

My daughter worked at the childcare centre on the Portrush/Magill road intersection. Owners had just invested millions in upgrades before Goverment released infrastructure plans, initially denying persistent rumours. Property was acquired with owners reluctantly accepting property valuations, and final offer, well below privately accessed values, the Goverment refusing to acknowledge external independent valuations as the law requires you to obtain and submit. I have accessed 100% of the acquired commercial and non commercial properties to instigate asbestos contanmination survey for decontamination, of which there is in excess of 300 ton. I was shocked and amazed by the amount of personal property remaining, with high incidence of evidence indicating theft. Average property valuations is $2.85 million AUD. The wine you discuss is top shelf. Unless recovered, look for the antique Porsche rally car, two HQ Holden Monaros, orginal condition FJ panel van, a collection of Jaguars and numerous cellars !!! Enjoy Paul.👍👍🇦🇺

Hey mate cheers for watching! Wow are you referring to these homes or all homes acquired in similar situations? I have explored all the ones that are being replaced but did not come across any cars especially not any like that! haha :-) There were groups of units on the North side I did not bother with and one villa that was a business that was not accessible prior to demo but I did get the Cozy Kids center.

@@urbexindigo5164 Refering to the homes and businesses aquired for the intersection upgrade. Good chance vehicles were recovered by owners. Two homes had grand entrance halls with crystal chandeliers intact that were stolen whilst in the process of moving due to the homes remaining unsecured. I accessed the last home for survey in November 2020, the resident losing an extended court injunction, denying the opportunity for an increased payout, the then residents lawyer arguing that his client was denied the opportunity of purchasing a suitable home for himself due to the Goverment only offering a piecemeal $3.10 million AUD !!!. My daughter was a specialist childhood behavioral engineer at Cosy Kids but was forced to seek employment opportunities elsewhere. The previous owners won a court decision for a further substantial property payment after the Goverment valuer admitted purposefull underestimation but still suffered heavy financial losses. Don't know if you explored off camera but I recorded 80% of the acquired homes had a bore that drew water from a natural spring water basin that extends from the Adelaide foothills to north of Pelican Point, the same basin West End and Coopers brewery draw water for their beers from. Just hoping the bores will be correctly cemented off to stop contamination. 👍👍🇦🇺

This is making me sick, these poor people being actually throw out of the home they loved and took such good care of. I'm sure what they gave them for this house won't really buy them anything as gorgeous or well built. The piece with the glass doors and lighting is the top piece to a hutch. All the beautiful glass doors and windows. All that wine could have been a really bad day if kids got into it. Don't understand how they just left that behind with unlocked doors.

No moving trucks available in the state of Texas from March April May due to college students moving in or out after end of the school year. I talked to several companies who said that they were bringing in trucks from other states to meet the demand. Omg. I tried to call the mortgage company to ask for a weeks more time bc I was told they could give me a truck by June 3rd, so basically I lost a third of my stuff for not having a truck to move it.

I can live with people taking advantage of an opportunity to sell and profit from a beautiful home like this but when governments acquire places like this and the homeowner has no choice it really irks me . Probably immigrants who come for a better life and helped build the country and shaped its culture. ,,, It’s not the country I was told it would be ,,,, Not so equal and not so free . Thanks for sharing/enlightening us mate .

Excellent video, always enjoyable. I'm always amazed at the ceilings in these homes. The U.S. stopped decorating ceilings in the late 19th very early 20th century except for very high end high dollar homes.

Such a crying shame to knock down these beautiful old homes. The craftsman ship on all parts of the building, lead lighting, ceilings, timber work etc is never replicated nowadays. My Grandparents had a very similar home. Thanks Paul.

This place is really, really nice. Got some nice furniture left behind too. What a shame it's going to be destroyed. Have a hard time viewing it as progress. Thanks Paul

This was almost too painful to watch and I gasped when you showed the salvage part. A beautiful home that was so well built. So sad. I know that you said the houses over the fence wouldn't be affected, but they will when they have the noise of the traffic closer to them. I don't suppose that they would have expected that when they chose to live there and wonder whether they will be compensated. I bet quite a few decide to move away and another community will be broken up.

What a find. Top part of a wall unit, big LG TV. Loads of character, the lovely plaster work on the ceilings. abandoned furniture, nice double mattress with a big flower patterned cover

Thank you for documenting this Paul. I feel absolutely sick that these irreplaceable homes are gone forever for a stupid road ?! In Melbourne many years ago, they actually tried to do the same thing on Punt Road but for whatever reason didn't happen. There was a huge public outcry as most of the homes there are over 100 years old.

Of all of your videos I've seen. I think this one is the most impressive. The woodwork is amazing. I love the stained glass. Pocket doors are amazing features, but are rare, it seems in the states. I think I may have seen pocket doors in one other video of yours. (I admit, I have not seen all your videos.) The ceilings are spectacular. Such amazing features. Love the window seat and box in the front bedroom. That would be my bedroom. Amazing!! LOVE the bathroom. I would not change a thing. The kitchen is a bit of a disappointment, not in size, but in style. BUT, the fact it has a big, nice pantry makes up for a lot. I cannot get over the size of the bedrooms. They are huge! I even like the second bathroom, even though the backdoor opens into the toilet. It's a great house. Wish it could be picked up and put down in the USA. I would put a bid in on it. Thanks for sharing

It's called eminent domain here in the US. That house would be my dream house. I love the glass and the pocket doors, the ceilings and pretty much everything else. So sad. 🌹

What a shame they basically steal their property. I couldn't imagine loosing a home like that. My favorite was the front and back porches.
