@Lava LifeGuard Thats what I was thinking. Probably didn't seem at all simple if you had children born with a Cleft Palate, crippled by Polio or dying of Tuberculoses, Diptheria or Scarlet Fever, or suffering Rickets, because you couldn't afford to feed them properly. Also they had a lot of the same problems families struggle with today, alcoholism, prejudice, domestic violence, child abuse, autism, unemployment, depression, psychosis, schizophrenia, teenage pregnancies. There would have been less information & understanding & often more judgement & not much help. If you had strong family nearby or a strong active church locally, including people who felt moved to help you, you would have been lucky.

Another great explore. Tons of these one room schools were here in the states. In Virginia some have found new purposes. One nearby me was used as a home after the school closed. It then was converted to a church which it remains as today. The basic shape is still the same. My Dad was from rural Oklahoma and attended these one room schools growing up in the late 40s and 50s. Lots of neat stories of riding his horse to school, tending the stove and being mischievous. He was the only child of 7 to graduate high school. Really neat to see this. Thanks so much for sharing ❤️

It’s also called a chair rail. So when you pull your chair out it won’t tear the wallpaper or dent or punch through the wall. Or had a desk so she or he could keep an eye on the students. My guess is the 70s lights. They road horses to school.

The outside of this old classroom brought back memories of my misspent High School youth at Woodville High, Adelaide.There were quite a few of these old "temporary" classrooms in the school grounds. Around 1957, 2nd year or year 9, we had a teacher, Mr. "Pinhead" Bourke. Very liberal with the cane, Mr. Bourke used to wear army boots to school & would stomp his way around the classroom. The floor was SO rotten, that one day, Pinhead went through the floor was only visible from about the waist up. I absolutely defy anyone not to have laughed in that situation. Of course, anyone who did laugh was given a "jolly good thrashing" as a reward. Luckily, Mr. Bourke was facing away from where I was sitting...🤣🤣🤣🤣

3:20 I had to giggle. You just told us some of the history of this place including being used as a weekender got in the door and said “ Oh I think this was a home as well? 🤪😃 Sometimes the raises platforms had hinges on and the sporting equipment was stored underneath.
@urbexindigo51645 жыл бұрын
Haha thats true Tina as I found out and added that info after I did the explore so I was kind of piecing it together as I went before I actually knew the details :-) Yeah the loft is strange but looks to be an ad on from after the school closed. Thanks for watching :-)

Cool back story. It was great to know the past. Still don't understand the loft thing though.

Hope you are well. its my birthday today,Anyway its an amazing old place, plenty of space. The lights could be from the 60s. l bet it has a good history. good find.

Happy Birthday Kathleen! :-) I enjoyed finding this place, a touch different but still the same nice old themes going on from the early 1900`s. Glad you enjoyed, cheers for watching :-)

The wall sconces (lights), were popular from the 50's-70's. You can still buy them today. Google rustic farmyard wall sconce lighting, very beautiful items. Where I'm from we have lots of old one room schools still standing, here in rural ND.
@urbexindigo51645 жыл бұрын
Cool Heather thanks for the info! They must have put them in the mid 70`s when purchased it after the school closed down. :-) Hope to find a few more of these little gems around the country :-0

Would've been a beautiful home once,shame it's in this state now. and looks to have been abandoned for decades(if i'm not wrong 😊).Even as rough of a shape as it is in currently, I can still picture it’s lost beauty. Thanks so much Indigo for sharing another wonderful adventure, really you never disappoint! Wishing you a great time!😊
@urbexindigo51645 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your support Fatiha :-) Yes this place was used on and of from the mid 70`s to the early 90`s and purchased by the current owner in the mid 90`s. He purchased the entire property to farm the land. Glad you enjoyed and cheers for watching

Hi Paul!! :-D My father attended a one room schoolhouse as a child. I like how the building was modified into a home. Definitely industrious sorts. :-) Those lights are definitely out of the 70's. My grandparents has the crushed velvet chairs and shag carpets which I remember from my childhood (I'm 49) lol I noticed the ceiling medallions, it makes sense that they would have a dual purpose as ceiling vents. This building has a whole lot of potential! :-) I would much prefer an in-house toilet though. Trudging out to the outhouse while my folks built the ranch house I grew up in was no fun at all. :-P
@urbexindigo51645 жыл бұрын
Haha there was a nearly collapsed 2 door outhouse next to the shelter shed which im sure used to be the toilets for here. No fun at all. haha. Yep others agree 70`s for the lights :-) I hope t find a few more of these old schools around, they were scattered all over. Thanks for watching :-)

This was a very interesting school building. The size was a little bigger than the ones we had in the US. I wonder how many students it held and what grades these students were in. This was a very good video of this building.

Hi Jo, the owner Ken said he can send me some newspaper clippings about the school so I may ask him more about it also :-) Glad you enjoyed , thanks for watching :-)

I was expecting grandma to be in the fridge. Those lights late 70s i think. One of my friends parents had one of the wall mounted ones by their front door.

Thank goodness Grandma was not in there Andrew haha :-) Yep others agree 70`s for the lights too. Cheers for watching :-)

A very interesting find, i think the raised platforms were made or used a s a bed while it was a weekend home, it was a nice building.

What a great place. Hope all who were taught there loved it. I'm sure I would've. All that space to roam outside. Hmmm..wonder if the teacher had an Australian cattle dog to herd them all back in after recess?lol.what is that rack up above? Thanks for another great explore. Hey If u get a chance ..check out Godwin. She has a fantastic video on an old Georgia plantation.
@urbexindigo51645 жыл бұрын
Hey Sandy :-) That platform would have been put in when they people turned it in to a weekender. Prob a small sleeping loft. A cattle dog would have been a very Aussie thing to do for rounding up the kids! haha :-)

@@urbexindigo5164 that is just so sad... He could fix it like a lil museum... It's ashame ppl today don't cherish the lil tid bits of history we have left to preserve them... If I were extremely wealthy I'd go around buying up the abandoned places & restoring them... I wish more ppl cared about history :(

What a shame the owner didn't look after it it could have been a beautiful place for people to stay and would have been extra 💰 for him still lovely old school house

The ceiling fan is mid to late 70s. The switches I saw were Clipsal 77 series - 1963-1967 (ish), the Power points were a mixture of Clipsal (1963-1967ish). Unsure about the metal Wilco switches though...

This is a another great explore. Still has that school look. I thought those were vents on ceiling. Thumbs up for Ken too. Thank you so much I appreciated and enjoyed this vlog. I have a question about the bees are they normal bees or those wild bees which I am told are killers
@urbexindigo51645 жыл бұрын
Hi Wendy :-) Yes Ken was a legend and very kind, he is even going to send me some news clippings about the old school :-) The bees are just honey bees, we do not have those Africanized bees here. They are easily navigated this time of year hives are far less active. Glad you enjoyed! :-)
