I'm on board with the rebuild. Nice to keep this one original. 1965 was such a great year for car design in general, most manufacturers retooled and offered new drive trains, bodies became more squared off. Always liked the roofline on the '65 mopars

When that valve cover was removed at 27:26 I said, "Oh no." To me it looked like someone (young kid probably) had run the car for years without changing the oil or even topping it off. I'd really like to see an engine rebuild or at least a forensic failure investigation as I'm also a big fan of 1965 Chrysler/Dodge models.

That is a rare and unique vehicle, even if you don't do a complete restoration it could be a valuable multi video for bringing it back to life. Very nice ride. Glad to see it's getting another lease on life. I would bet my last donut that the odometer has gone around at least once (putting it at 147,000). The service records appear to have ended when the car changes owners. Many old 5 digit odometer cars never made it past 100,000 when it came time to sell 😉 But, you never know. Great ride and well optioned. Looking forward to more updates. Take care. PS; Your very fortunate it didn't have a vinyl top all those years. The rust, especially on the rear pillars would have been MUCH worse. Nice patina actually. 👍

And if it turns out that it can't be rebuilt, I have a complete HP-383 sitting on a stand in my garage that I will donate to the cause. It needs a carb, alternator and fan belts. Hey Dylan I definitely think that cars worth restoring I would rebuild the engine not soup it up just rebuild its stock. where it's not going to cost a lot of money and just fix the car up stock and driving around or sell it it's going to be worth some big money? it has Factory air and power steering and power brakes it's a very desirable model with the bucket seat definitely worth fixing up.

OK Dylan, I'm going to put my two cents worth in here. The "sludge" you were seeing in the valve cover and on the rocker arms was generally caused by Motor oil with a graphite base. So yes, they did change the oil just like they were supposed to. (Your records in the book proved that.) But that old motor oil with the graphite caused all of that. It probably caused oiling problems in the bottom end, hence the locked up motor. But a 65 era 383 is definitely worth the trouble of saving.

Probably parked in 1973 because of the oil boycot from the middle east. Gas prices went through the roof, rationing at the pump. Plenty of reasons to park a gas guzzling big block V8. About the engine, are the dizzy and oil pump drifen from the same shaft? maybe you can remove the dizzy and use a drill to drive the oilpump without actually running the engine. You could pump a clearing agent (like diesel or engine flash) all through the oil passages. You can wash the valve train using a paint brush. You wash every thing in the sump. When you have the top of the engine cleaned and have flushing agent coming out of every oil gallery hole you can stop pumping it around. Drain the sump, fill it with new oil, new filter, re-install the dizzy. Leave the ignitio off for now. Crank the flushed engine with the new oil. Check if the oil gwts everywhere it is needed, check if the oil pressure Light goes out. If yes, hook the ignition back up, provide anbexternal fuel source . Try to start it!

Would love to see an engine rebuild series. If anything it would be neat to see what the inside looks like.

That Monaco similar to my 65 Plymouth fury II. It has a 383 as well. it was parked in 73, engine was seized just like the Monaco. When we tore the engine down we found literal piles of rust and crud in the pistons. Body is in similar shape even. Biggest difference will probably be that the Monaco will be driving years before I get my Plymouth going

You seriously need to get that car back on the road somehow, some way. That's a very good survivor car. I like that car that most so far out of any car you've redone. I'd go through the original engine, the car only has 45,000 miles on it! Do the engine, brakes, basically what u did on the mustang 2. Its well worth it. Clean the interior as well. Quite an amazing car.

I just watched this video again, that thing would be an AWESOME platform for a Hellcat or Hellaphant motor. It would be the only Dodge Monaco in the country with that setup I'm betting. It would need everything upgraded to handle such a setup but a super cool sleeper.

Cool car, definitely worth more attention. It would be interesting to tear down the engine to see what happened.

Tear down and rebuild. Needs a 413 or 440. Love the roof lines on 65 -67 mopsrs. Big car needs big displacement. Get a 449 from a motor home. They usually have low miles due to cost of operation.
