Abandoned Durand Academy Boarding School

Durand Academy Boarding School was built between 1874 and 1876 as a private house by Richard Norman. From 1939 onwards it has housed several schools. Wispers School remained here for only 9 years before moving to West Dean house, briefly, then onto it's permanent residency at Haslemere. St Cuthman's opened again in 1956 as a girls school, surviving until 2004. After lying empty for 6 years, it was bought by the Durand Academy, for use as free bording school something that was hugely criticised by not only the education board but the locals as well. Durand Academy opened its doors to pupils in September 2014 lasting just 3 years before closing in September 2017.

I hope they can keep some of the original architectural beauty when they modify it. Sad people did not respect it and leave it alone and not trash things. Thanks for looking and not wrecking stuf, be safe!

Yeah I hope they do and keep the original character when the re do. it such a lovely place. Really annoy me how people damage things when it's not getting them anywhere when it's such a beautiful thing. No worries thank you. stay safe too

now being used for police dog training and work being carried out to turn into apartments due to owners getting fedup with people getting in the building and trashing it

It was originally owned buy a guy who lived in it until they turned it into a school

Why are all the access points wide open? It's almost as if the owners want people in - we all know how that'll eventually end up - fire and demolition, ready for redevelopment of the land. I can't see any evidence of it being converted into apartments either?

Exactly. They were stripping it all out when I got there have been told that it's is fully sealed up now. But that's normally what happened when they don't agree to demolish it it ends up on fire. Such a shame

No idea the school had closed and because its a grade 2 listed building they can't knock it down, but re-doing it up now to turn into apartments
