Apparently I was told, it was used to make the body moulds for a kit car, they then hacked the roof off to make a convertible version of the kit. Personally I think theres more to it and that it must have been in some prior accident.

@@Ratarossa Scott,i have a few solutions to your problems: 1.Get a good body shop Man who can make the panels fit and cut ,you only need the man not the "body shop" bill! Also the reinforcements for the chassis need to be done under the car so you have the proper view when you open the doors!😉 2.The car is UNIQUE it deserves a new and fitted interior and that will increase it's value.Again ,you need someone who can do this not a "shop".😉 3.The car needs to be a satin pearl white or the best Black ...because your attachement to Miami Vice and Michael Jackson video wich will also create value for the car in time. 4.In USA there are shops wich build convertible tops for cars that never came with one look into that in the UK.I hope its not very expensive!Also from the cars profile the best top for it would be something resembling the 360 spider shape. 5.Try to make a "gofundme" or get some sponsors to help with this project pple that would benefit from such a UNIQUE project with their name attached to it! 6.If you made it this far, get some crazy exhaust to let it scream and ENJOY. I think its worth tidying up the body and getting some paint on it. The problem you have there with the primer is that primer absorbs moisture and eventually the car will start rusting from the inside out. Yes agreed it will never be perfect, but I don't think it would be too cost prohibitive to get it looking quite nice. Incredible story, and man, what a huge massive amount of time and effort to get it running at to the point its at now......Fantastic story!! I have a lot of respect for you!!

I do remember reading a article back in the 80s from Fast Lane magazine. And few others back then. A Ferrari Tesstorosa was converted to a spyder and was the only one in existence at the time. It had been involved in crash early on so a independent tunner at the time converted it whilst doing the rebuilding. I think that one was in white. Can't be many about, ultimate car for a kid that grew up in the 80s

If you are thinking of adding a roof due to the weather then maybe a Targa / GTS configuration might work really well for you. Make the removable section out of glass or perspex and you have a Panoramic roof as well.

My only personal preference would be to create some kind of roll-over bar(s) because that windscreen surround would do absolutely NOTHING in the event of a rollover and you would be unquestionably an ex-Ratarossa!!

I love the RATROD look!!! I once asked a guy why he didn't restore his 1930s indian motorcycle and he told me "You can't make a bike old but you can always restore it.". That resonated with me. Don't change that car past its history, that's what makes it unique and why your channel is so successful. And if you wanted it to look cleaner you could always wrap it and take it off later.

Here's an idea. Draw a line down the length of the car so you have two equal halves. Leave one side as it is and then restore and paint the other side. Best of both worlds and totally unique. As for the roof... get an umbrella.

Love TestaRossa's..but when I was a kid.. Crocket and Tubbs had a Ferrari Daytona before they got the TestaRossa. but the TR has always been my favorite car. And Ratarossa is awesome the way it is. Its fun and great and everyone (except the purists) love it. Thanks for sharing it!

Problem is it’s not rough enough to be true ‘rat’ and it literally looks like a half finished build. I’d paint it white. Would look cool and still doesn’t need to be mint like when you paint a car black. Saying that even red would be cool but get it patina’d so it looks ‘rat’. Sounds the nuts and looks incredibly cool painted this will look badass.

Love the Ratarossa, if your going to go as far as fabbing a roof for it, some light body work, prep and smooth the panels and wrap it would complete the exterior for me. With a wrap you could go crazy with a design or a straight color. The gaps and stuff can stay.

I find the red slats with raw metal body quite grating, but when you show the body up close and tell it's story, it's state is quite cool. How about rather than painting the body, paint the slats, and mirrors, black or grey in a way that complements the metal, and leave it otherwise unpainted.

No paint! If you're going to keep the tatty interior, keep the tatty exterior and a consistant ratrod look. Get the mechanicals sorted, fix the gas filler, and drive as is. It's the perfect antithesis to the typical high performance, low mileage Ferrari garage queen that travels more miles in covered transport than out on the road.
